Yep. I do believe that when it comes to calories, 100g of proten is the same as carbs. Now, maybe some carbs will spike your insulin and make you more hungry and likely to overeat. But that is not the same as calories in vs. calories out
High protein diets work because you're taking in fewer calories for the most part.. But in the meantime, If you were to eat that level of protein at a higher amount of calories with no weight lifting, you would get fat. In the meantime, who knows what exactly you're doing to your overall health with a high protein diet https://www.prevention.com/eatclean/weight-gain-from-protein It doesn't matter what the Obesity Code guy says or any of those new Atkins light people. They're just more frauds trying to shill books and diet plans, wow conflating what a high protein diet can do for a diabetic with what it can do for non-diabetics |
The Answer is: food choices that result in a calorie deficit |
There is a 57yo woman in my CrossFit class who had gone from 180 to (she says) 140 in six months. When she started she wasn’t athletic at all. |
I am also on a weight loss journey. This is what I was told that made sense to me: Eat real food ( the less processed as possible) more vegetables and eat less. Cut out all chips, ice cream, Starbuck fancy drinks, cut back on alcohol, sugar, flour. If you do this plus get in 150 minutes of exercise a week you will lose weight. |
strange sounds like you don't believe her! |
Habit changes. Small changes over time make a big difference. WW works for many, calorie counting works for many, and understanding what your habits are and identifying small changes that you can implement can make a huge difference over time.
(I also believe that IF can make a difference to insulin levels and that impacts weight but do not want to start another debate) None of the above are inconsistent with each other. The diet that works for you is one that you can stick with forever and maintain what you achieve. I am a 55 YO woman that has lost and kept off 20 pounds since last April. I do not do extreme anything, but I walk quite a bit (built it into my commute) and I meal plan. I also plan to eat things I love. I personally love listening to podcasts about many things including weight loss. I recommend the half size me podcast. She is all about losing with maintenance in mind. I also recommend listening or reading up on scarcity mentality and eating. Good luck. |
I am 47 and tried coaches, WW, low carb, mindful eating, I know calories for hundreds of items etc etc - the only thing they ever worked for me is IF. I did way before it was in (wasn’t called the hat way) and it works at 47 as well. you can eat what you want just not all day long. simple! |
Count calories with an app, like my fitness app. |
