I'll never understand people who walk around locker rooms naked. I think if you're a teacher, and there are teenagers around, you HAVE to exercise greater caution and keep yourself covered.

I workout almost every day, am at the gym probably 4-5x a week, and this is never ever an issue in women's locker rooms, saunas, etc. Yes, there are those people who will chitchat with their boobs out - it's awkward and I avoid it, but there's never any concern that the person is being deliberately creepy. For some reason only men have this problem. I don't understand why as a teacher, you would not make greater attempts to keep a towel around your waist when moving around a locker room.

If he's a big guy, he probably wouldn't be able to wrap a standard locker room towel around his waste.

Or his waist either.

Then use two towels. Or bring a larger one from home. I know that as a teacher there are lots of pressures and stresses all the time, but come on, this is common sense. There's definitely no need for anyone to linger naked in a locker room.

Good one. Very good.

I'm not a teacher, and I don't linger in locker room, but I don't understand your point. Are you saying that, if a man (generally) is a teacher, he needs to cover up his junk at all times in a locker room at a private gym, even if the towels aren't big enough to wrap around his waist? I don't think you know what a typical male locker room is like. A lot of guys aren't that private.

Now if the teacher was actually following some kids around a locker room and fondling himself in their presence, he ought to be prosecuted, no doubt.

This makes no sense. Rolling Stone published a completely fabricated story about a rape and fraternity at UVA.
In this kind of situation someone's entire life is at stake. Wait.

He lost his job, his house and his excellent reputation even though the police decided nothing happened and she later recanted. [b]

You should be ashamed of yourself for wanting to spread speculation and gossip about this man when you have no idea what happened. Let the court judge him, not us.

If you're referring to the case in FFX from a few years ago, that was horrifying. That poor man and his family. Even after the girl admitted to lying, the school system still treated him as a pariah.

I don't think you can compare womens and mens locker rooms. Some guys will shave, use the toilet, chat with their buddy, etc. completely in the buff and not be the least bit modest. I'm a guy and have lived in a number of all male environments, and I would prefer they wear a towel, but some guys just do that.

I'm a teacher and this kind of thing concerns me as well. Our school currently has a student who is aggressive and combative and whose parents think the world is out to get them. This student shoved their teacher in front of the whole class and then stated that they were going to tell their parents that the teacher hit them. The entire class witnessed what actually happened but because the student made the accusation and the parents came in guns blazing there has to be an administrative investigation and the teacher has to be on leave during it. Even when it's proven to be false it will still have to go on the teacher's record and will most likely impact that teacher's career (the teacher is in an admin prep program) because schools would rather hire people with no potentially controversial marks on their record. Even though the teacher did absolutely nothing wrong and there were 20 something witnesses.

I am NEVER alone with students and I always have my classroom door open and position myself as close to the open door as possible. Even that may not be enough protection if a student wants to make a false accusation.

I have no idea what actually happened in this case but it is scary to be a teacher these days with savvy students and parents who know how the system works if they have an ax to grind.

I volunteer with my kids' club sports organization. I too make sure I am never alone, and the club has rules to that effect. The accusation can ruin a person.

If he is innocent, I hope he lawyers up and sues the teens, their parents, the school district, etc. Btw, this is a good reason not to go to gym. Any prepubescent kid can point at you, lie and you lose your job, life, family. This is some fucked up shit. Even with probable cause, it's only been hours and there's no way authorities had time to conduct proper investigation and determine guilt. I'd sue the police department as well if they did anything wrong. Fact is that even if the teens recant their story, this man is ruined. Search engines have a long memory and he'll always be cast as a pedo.

Completely agree. Unfortunately, this is why it's dangerous to even be a male teacher, period. They can be accused of doing just about anything, and people will believe it. Even if they're eventually found innocent, their entire reputations are destroyed.

Of course now some idiot will say that if kids accuse a teacher of sexual misconduct, then he obviously did something. Which is very often such BS.

Your comments are totally sexist. In the gym I go to, and the gym at my office women walk around naked all the time! I find is awkward and always am covered up, but to pretend that it's not common, or only men do it is ridiculous. I have no idea what happened her, but the women don't walk around naked thing is way off. There's one lady who always strikes up conversations, too. Creepy to me, but I think she's just comfortable in her skin.

No, my teacher friend that this happened to lived in Maine. Until his house went into foreclosure and then he moved in with family in Virginia. It's taken six years and he's still trying to rebuild his life.
