So she deserved to die because she had some fun on a tropical island?

PP didn't say Natalie deserved to die. Nobody is blaming the victim for her awful demise. However, someone didn't care if she deserved it or not. He took advantage of her fun-on-a-tropical-island condition. He didn't get the message about how rude and mean it is to do that. Maybe he got the message and just ignored it.

So if you decide to have fun by getting drunk, please remember the gamble you are taking. Not all people are nice and mannerly; some may not play fair.

exactly. it is NOT victim blaming to point out that getting drunk has risks.

Yeah, but we ALL know that. Because we're adults and BTDT. However, Natalie was a high school student and probably didn't have much experience with alcohol.
Anyways, the point of thread is to discuss the facts surrounding the case. Not listen to you moralize like an After-School Special on the dangers of booze.

My biggest annoyance with the Holloway case is that it spawned the career of Nancy Grace. UGH.

Also, she didn't die from being drunk. She died because she trusted someone she shouldn't have, and he turned out to be a murderer.

Wasn't there a journalist who spent months undercover making friends with Joran? I thought Joran admitted he took her out to sea and dumped her (like, way out) after she had a seizure while they had sex. He didn't make sure she was alive or dead, just took her limp body out and dumped it.

And, 9:53, you're disgusting.

Yep. Sad case but it seems very likely this is what happened.

Agree with all of this - it's sad she'll never be found, but I don't think what happened is really a mystery. Nor was it her fault.

This.

Do you think those brothers were involved too?

No one is blaming the victim. It's not blaming to say that you're probably safer if sober and not drunk. That's true in all kinds of circumstances, unless you can completely trust the person(s) you're hanging out with.

It is, actually. That is the definition of victim blaming.

Will you teach your children to trust everyone they meet? I hope not.

Dude, please shut the f#ck up. The point of this thread is to talk about facts of the case. If you can't contribute to that, see your ass out of this thread.

I do think the brothers know more than they admitted. Not sure if they were involved in the actual crime though. Joran and his dad definitely tried to exercise their white colonial privilege and "pin it on the black guys."

The Kalpoe brothers. No

They may have known more though.
Joran's dad knew what happened. He had a heart attack and died young.

Quite a contribution, bro!

This was not really a mystery - the problem was Aruba doesn't have great infrastructure for criminal investigations and I recall the boy's father had some influence so pretty sure corruption was involved. Body was never found because I don't think until the US was involved - too late - it was really searched for.

All the dots lined up to that Dutch rich kid, and then he ended up doing it again - got caught on video going into a young woman's hotel room, she died in there, got caught coming out. He is in prison for life - and not a great prison from what I understand. Also his dad had died so his influence couldn't help him at that point.

Joran has a wife or girlfriend. He has a young child. The jail allows sex.

Not true - he'll be out in 20 years.

Most jails do, just not always the kind that every participant is willing to do.
