HOAX! But does that mean a reservation opened up at Equinox? http://www.snopes.com/2016/07/11/anonymous-day-of-rage-protests-2016/

OP here. Thanks everyone for the feedback. We are bsck on with our venture into DC, and a good time will be had by all!
On a serious note, a hoax like this is not funny. It makes an already volatile environment worse and does feed into fears. |
But only if people already believe the worst about people who oppose the police killing unarmed black people. Can you imagine if someone posted that young whites were going to hold a day of rage over anti-abortion laws. Would people really fear traveling into DC if they thought the protestor was Larla and Charles instead of Lakeisha and Chavaughn? |
It isn't meant to be funny. It's meant to make gullible white suburbanites afraid of cities and Black people. Don't for a minute think this was meant to be funny. |
I don't think you can assume that someone questioning whether this was a hoax or not think the worst about people who oppose police killing unarmed black people. These protests, while predominantly peaceful, have erupted into horrible violence, and the OP was being prudent. She/he said she was bringing a teenager and old parents. |
| It's not a hoax. |
| Where's the proof it's not a hoax? |
| Protests are scheduled for Friday night at 7 pm outside the White House. |
| How many cities? |
| We got notice of it from our downtown, DC daycare center that coordinates with federal security. |
| There's a protest like every five minutes at the White House. It's what we do here in DC. Seriously, don't worry about it. |
I don't assume that about a person questioning if it's a hoax. I do assume it about someone already has fear and their fears balloon/are validated upon hearing a hoax. The person who researches if its a hoax is being responsible. The person who panics, cancels trips into majority black cities, and spreads the rumor all over social media is not being responsible. |

I think what bothers people about THIS protest is its name - “Day of Rage.”
It evokes images similar to what we saw in Ferguson or Baltimore. Plus, the mere name encourages crazies to come out of the woodwork just to get in on the action. |
| DC has weathered countless protests and it will weather this one as well. If it even happens. |
Thank you. I'm the OP and was just being responsible, as you recognized. But now, further up this thread, someone said it is not a hoax per information she/he was given from their daycare. I'm certain that if it is true - doubtful - reliable news media will report it by tomorrow. |
