Chevy Chase Club to Parents: Your kids are brats

I see this everywhere now. I was at pick up the other day at my kids ES and a bunch of tweens were being "bad" on the property and the ES principal came out to scold them and they literally just mocked her to her face.

She did nothing. It was pathetic.

Another time, a tween walking his dog by me and my dog, his dog snarled and lunged and he could barely control it. I told him he needed to control his dog. When I turned away a girl in that group said something long the lines of "yeah and you need to chill." I spun around and said to her, "what did you just say?"
she was shocked to be called out and immediately apologized. But in general no one stands up to these kids.

Not CC country club, but in Bethesda.

I grew up going there and was recently home visiting my parents for Christmas (I live in Los Angeles now)

I went to the bathroom and while in there a group of young girls were milling around, playing with the hairbrushes and kind of joking with each other. I noticed that one of the girls seemed kind of bossy, but thought nothing of it when I walked up to wash my hands.

The bossy one came up to me and asked how old I was.

Thinking they were sweet little girls, I gave them and a big smile and told them my age, 26.

The girl immediately glared at me and informed me that I dont look 26, I look like a teenager. (This was not intended as a compliment, I can assure you)

This seemed to break some kind of onslaught, and as I dried my hands, one of them shouted at me that she hated my dress.

It was really SO bizarre, and I kind of wanted to say something back, or tell them that they were being completely out of line. But then I realized that I was genuinely thinking of insulting a bunch of ten year olds, so I didn't do it.

BUT I dont think I've ever been so appalled by the behavior of kids. It was really strange.

As I walked away from the bathroom I could hear them saying stuff to a woman who had walked in.

It was pretty gross, like Mean Girls Chevy Edition.

If that's what the kids are like now, I'm glad Chevy is doing something.

PP, this is the most bizarre story I have ever heard. I have a 10 YO DS and I simply cannot imagine his female friends behaving in this manner.

x100 I was gonna just post the same thing! I bet the parents just use positive discipline.

Affluenza.

Seriously, if the wealthy can literally get away with multiple homicides, why should we be shocked that their children are spoiled, entitled brats with no manners? I expect this trend to continue.

So obviously not true.

according to some parents, the kids were just "expressing" themselves. This is why I would spank my 8 yr old for speaking to me or any adult disrespectfully. If a kid thinks he can speak to a parent this way, the kid will have no problems speaking to any adult this way, probably even a cop. Parents need to control this kind of thing early on.

Not all. If we correct sweeping generalizations about poor people being criminals than we need to correct them about the wealthy.

Country club kids are brats everywhere. Comes with the territory. Not all rich people belong to country clubs, but the ones who do usually are kind of bratty adults with bratty kids. Always been that way...

These children are clearly gifted and brilliant! All bad behavior in DC is dismissed as a sign of intelligence.

(I know this because a CC friend inferred that my son wasn't bright because he is well behaved and polite.)

So, I have a question about the specifics in this article. I assume from this that parents just drop their kids off at the club, unsupervised, for hours on end. Are they supposed to be in some sort of tennis or swimming class? Are they meeting up with friends and just supposed to find something there to do? I can imagine how much worse this will get in the summer when school is out -- no camps necessary! The "people at the club" will watch your kids for you!
