Free range parenting for the 1%?

There seems to be a lot of hate mongering toward the rich, OP. You may have noticed it once or twice (!!!) on these boards.

Congressional was where the old money was...no Georgetown (catholic) types.....high end waspy government types with wispy offspring who did not need to prove anything.
There goes the neighborhood!

Catholic bashing will get you nowhere. WASPs in my G'town 'hood are cold & unwelcoming; it's the Catholics who are warm and helpful. I guess because they were here 'first' & do not feel threatened by false spinoffs of their church

Can we stop calling them WASPs if they aren't acting like real Christians? I think that term is misused a lot on DCUM. Why not call the WASA's? A=athiest. Just sayin'.

Many atheists act more "Christian" than so-called Christians.

You know your phrase contradicts itself, right? One gets to be snobbish if they are a government worker? For reals?

I think we are talking about people like Averell Harriman, not clerks at the DMV. People who could afford to work in "public service" because they had private incomes.

Thought it was" From shirtsleeves to short sleeves in 3 generations"

Eh things have not changed. Congo is and never has been where the old money hangs out. They have plenty of new money, but Chevy has been the hangout for old money for the past hundred years, and it aint changing anytime soon. And Columbia as well, though to a much lesser extent.

Maybe you arent as "plugged in" to things as you think you are...

There is a certain amount of new money at Chevy and there are many of us who would like to see it go.... Not because it is new ,but because it often comes attached to unattractive people. Board does not care....enough. I hope they see this post! As for the kids they are just romping around like kids anywhere....that are unsupervised

They are there because they deserve to be there. So sorry that they ruin your view, Muffy.

No they do not "deserve" to be there. Not sure anyone at the club would ever use that term. Ruining the view... Well... We might have another way of putting it.

If they actually earned their way into getting into that club, then they deserve to be there. Its as simple as that. If you want to base getting into the club on lineage, connections, and ancestry, may I suggest that you move to Europe? You'll need a time capsule, however.

No ,it does not work that way. If you were a member you would know this. I will also add that if you were a member of any of the older clubs in the US. It absolutely is based on lineage, connections, and ancestry. Which is why the new money wants to be a part of it.

Everything about this makes me happy that I don't waste my money on this club. Let the family membership drop a generation ago and God bless Dad for that choice.

The fact that your family held membership at this club ( or any other for that matter)may hold little help for you today, which is exactly the point.

I would bet $100 that this is completely fabricated.

I believe you. I remember when I was growing up outside Philadelphia and I asked my mom what my friends' parents did at their country club. She said something to the effect of "you don't need to worry about it because you'll never get to find out." We were (a) Jewish, (b) not wealthy, and (c) not originally from that area. I never knew anyone who was in a club who shared any one of these characteristics let alone all three!
