Funny. My step mom- who served in the house of reps could have never afforded the club on her government salary. Now that she bailed and is a lobbyist (it's the American way, right) she could.
House/senate members don't get paid THAT much.
Oh- and she/we really live in DC. Not sure what assumptions your post was based on.
