Someday you will be the mil and your DIL will be trashing you. How sad. Perhaps everyone should try a little more tolerance and understanding. The works would be a better place. All thei bitterness terrifies me for the future. It seems as if mil can do nothing right. Patent are are involved or under involved. Too clingy or aloof. Too opinionated or spineless. Sad, really. |
Let's talk when your child gets a mil like mine. I'd like too see you judging all is then. Sad, indeed. |
+1 This is exactly the type of MIL we are addressing. Bitter MILs are the worst. Your DIL is not your scapegoat, and is only nice to you because she is the bigger person of the two of you. MILs are supposed to be older and wiser and know better; not some bitter hag who needs a target. The bitter hags can back off. Once the grandkids get old enough, they will be saying the same thing to the bitter grandmother. Is that how you want your grandchildren to remember you? As a bitter hag? I plan to make an effort with my DIL and grandchildren, to be warm and welcoming - not just saying I "support" them, but actually showing it. And not just doing something once a year for bragging rights to my bridge club cronies. That will be progress from the true colors my MIL showed me. |
This is one reason I want to move from this area. I don't know any MILs who like their DILs here ![]() Certainly every DIL can't be all bad! |
This post got me thinking about how similar are my MIL and the mother of my high school/college boyfriend! They are both very conservative, family oriented, religious, and wedded to tradition. It probably says a lot about my taste in men, considering that my husband and this ex bf are similar in many ways. |
My MIL looks like a gnome. I am thinking of getting her a gnome witches costume, complete with tiny hat, striped socks, and broom. "Fly away so we can be free of you!"

Your mil most likely feels the same way about you... |
Yes, and you DIL may very well interpret your actions as intrusive and smothering. |
At 6' tall? That's a hell of a gnome! ![]() ![]() See, "I know you are, but what am I?" fails to work after 2nd grade. ![]() But that is mighty mature (!!!) of you, MIL. |
Huh? For making an honest, consistent effort that is not contradicted by other actions? Ladies, this is what I mean (PP) by a hostile MIL. Anyone who looks for fault is not someone you want to rub elbows with. |
Oh, honey, you have so much to learn. |
![]() I see you hate young women, just like my MIL. Telling, indeed. Thanks for the insight. |
My MIL is an alcoholic so I don't want her near my kids. She did enough damage to my DH. She doesn't get to do that twice! |
Didn't you know? All new wives were born yesterday, and came from under a rock. LOL! |
Amen. See angry MIL drunk post above. |
