Someone mentioned on another IL thread that if the MIL and DIL are opposite each other with regard to personality; the MIL may take that as the (son) rejecting the MIL.

Brilliant and so true!

. Doubtful. Mostly likely one or more intolerant people who can't. abide by some who approaches life differently.

Your response is unclear. One side has to "abide" by the other????? Wow, there is your issue right there!

.

Abide 1--accept or act in accordance with
2-- tolerate, bear, put up with, endure, stand.

Next time check your definitions.

No kidding. Still asking: why does one side have to "abide" by the other?

I think you chose the wrong word? Why so defensive?

Do you have reading comprehension issues? Secondary use of abide is tolerate, put up with, bear, stand.

Thus, insert synonym for abide. Most likely one or more intolerant people who cannot stand someone who approaches life differently. Got it?

NP here. If you're not an accomplished speaker of English, you should find something else to snark about. I can't keep track anymore between you bitter Betties but anyone who incorrectly criticizes someone else's grammar/usage should be pretty embarassed. Bad enough you are that petty, at least you could go to the trouble of being accurate. "Abide" as PP used it is really not all that rare.

You criticized her, you are completely wrong, she corrected you, and you keep digging yourself deeper. Even with the help of a dictionary you can't figure it out? Do yourself a favor and sign off now. You're looking dumber and sillier with every post.

Point is, we all know what abide means. You are the one not making sense. You are awfully defensive over nothing.

PP is saying you should stand by and take it. I don't agree.

. Good grief. You do have comprehension issues. This is not at all what was said or even implied.

. You obviously only understand one definition of abide--see above. You are embarrassing yourself and are too insufferable to see it.

Well then how it was used was misunderstood, not the actual word. That's different.

. It was used correctly. The misunderstanding was caused by someone's poor verbal skills--the very same someone who was criticizing the post and the poster. That "difference" doesn't make the ignorance acceptable.

. Nice try, sweetie but I am neither a mil nor mad. However, the repeated defense of ignorance in the face of evidence to the contrary is both childish and asinine.
