Curious how the leaving bit works. What are you guys losing? Just a deposit or tuition or what?

Curious about this too. DCJCC makes you pay out the whole year. It is a tight contract as private preschools try to hold on during this age of free preschool.

Heh. So this is why I've seen so many posts to the neighborhood listserve from parents about how a "great spot has opened up at JCC!"

Honestly, I don't think I could swallow foregoing an entire year of tuition. that's a lot.

At my preschool, the contract clearly states you give 2 months notice, so essentially you're out 2 months.

If you don't pre-pay for the year, do you really think the school will come after you for the money?

2 months notice is still too much. 30 days is generous and reasonable.

Awesome! Which class is your child in? Mine is in Ms. Bryant and Ms. Lillian.

DS has been assigned to Classroom 4 if I'm not mistaken it's the same class. See you in a few

Agreed but at least it is clear so I don't have to wonder. One year locked in is ridiculous.

Completely ridiculous. Our center had 30 days' notice.

Same for ours.

I think 30 days is standard for a daycare center.
Preschools are where it gets dicey.

We got offered a spot over the weekend. Will report back with schools once we make a decision

Accepted a K spot WOTP this morning after getting a call late Friday afternoon, freeing up Eaton K spot. Loved Eaton, but this commute is much better for us.

Schools absolutely have done this, because in a court of law, they will win.

Private schools don't have a "count day" in October like a public school. They set their budget in the spring when they lock in their enrollment. Losing a year's tuition at the last minute is no small thing.

I am curious for PK3 and PK4 if some people are holding multiple spots--at a charter that started today and at a DCPS that doesn't start until Thursday or Friday. I wonder if there will be more shuffle next week.

I hope so!

Which schools are people still holding out hope for at this point (for PS3 or PK)--I.e. Meaning you are high enough on the waitlist and still dissatisfied enough with your current solution that you are still actively trying?
