The quickest way to lose weight is indeed to eliminate carbohydrates from your diet. You will immediately lose water weight due to the lower amount of glucose in your body. This is Atkins 101. You will easily lose 1 pound/day for a week or two. I highly recommend the book by Gary Taubes "Why We Get Fat" It has helped me lose over 40 pounds in 6 months. Low carb, high fat is the way to go if you are overweight. There are any number of diets that use this approach. After an induction period of 2 weeks, you will lose your carbohydrate cravings. |
The issue with cutting carbs is that you will gain the weight back quickly if you go back to your old eating habits...but the same could be said about any diet. It needs to be a permanent dietary change to remain effective.
I did as close to zero carbs as I could for a month and lost 15 lbs. Now I allow them, but keep a close eye on them and I've even able to maintain my loss. |

You sound like me when I was trying to lose the last ten pounds of baby weight. I'm 5'9" and finally got down to 145.
Breakfast: Two eggs on multigrain or wheat (no butter or salt) Coffee with skim (no sugar) *the egg white delight at McDonalds without cheese or Canadian bacon is my go to breakfast on the run. Lunch: Eat lunch early if you are hungry (sometimes I eat at 11 or 11:30) Turkey or chicken or tuna on wheat or multigrain. Add lettuce and tomato if you like. No mayo. Fruit (grapes, strawberries or raspberries) Two cookies (that's all) or a piece or two of dark chocolate Snack: Fruit or nonfat Greek yogurt (plain) or some almonds *dont overdo it with yogurt or dairy Dinner: Frozen spinach with protein on top or on the side (rotisserie chicken, tuna or hard boiled egg) Drink tons of water throughout the day. All day long. Exercise if you can. If not, take the stairs, move around and don't sit on your ass when you get home from work. |
