Why? It is reasonable to think it might be drug paraphernalia. both parents being drug naive and not knowing a lot about what what drug it might be used for doesn't make him an idiot. I really hate this trend of putting men down and name calling them for no reason. |

Gravity bong. Put tin foil on the top. Poke some holes in it with a needle. Put the weed on the tin foil and submerge the bottle in water. When it's full, cover the hole with your finger. Light the weed. Let your finger off the hole so water escapes from the bottle and the smoke fills it. When the bottle is full of smoke remove the tinfoil and put your mouth over the bottle to suck the smoke it.
It will get your very very fucked up. |
We are not putting men down and calling them names for no reason. We are calling DH an idiot because he has apparently asserted that a soda bottle with a hole in it is being used to smoke cocaine by a 14 year old. It is ridiculous. |
| Pot |
For shame! Suppose a young person comes across this website, and uses this data to "get fucked up" on "crack"? |
I think PP said that because OP's husband thinks it is related to smoking cocaine, whereas pot seems to be the obvious likelihood. It just shows his naivety when it comes to drugs. OP, you do need to talk to your son, but I suggest you and your husband to some reading up online and other resources first. Since you both have zero experience with drugs, you want to make sure you handle this well. I graduated high school in 2004 so I like to think I'm not THAT old. I think one of the worst things parents can do is the whole "drugs will ruin your future, drugs will turn you into a bad person" type of speech. There were so many people I went to high school with that smoked pot and were star athletes and students so that entire conversation will go in one ear and ear out the other. But yeah, unless it is a hole that looks like it appeared from a breakage, he is likely using this to smoke pot. |
I'm assuming you are being sarcastic right? |
Why is that assumption ridiculous? Gravity bongs made with water bottles with a hole in the bottom are used to smoke crack. Maybe he saw or read that somewhere so he offered that as a response to finding the bottle, while trying to make sense of it. Or do you not think any teens are smoking crack? I still don't get why his response makes him an idiot? |
OP didn't know what it was either and is also naive - yet no one called her an idiot. I doubt calling women idiots for making a possibly wrong assumption in a new situation would be acceptable. |
Yes, but she admitted to not knowing and having zero experience with this, which is why she came online to seek advice. Makes more sense than jumping to the conclusion that her son is smoking crack. I would have thought she was naive and an idiot as well if she posted on here saying "found this in DS' room and it must mean he's smoking crack. What do I do now?" |
|
Is it wrong that this brings back so many memories of college?
Yeah, its most likely used for smoking marijuana, easy bong for those without an 18+ id or too poor for a true glass bong. Hell, I could probably still make one if I wanted. Its really simple. |
|
When you heard hoofbeats, don't think zebras. He's smoking weed, not crack OP. Good grief. You would know if your son was smoking crack.
Frankly, I don't think this is a big deal and would be inclined to ignore the bong. Within the next month or so, start a conversation in the car or something about safely experimenting with alcohol/weed, the legal ramifications if he gets caught, driving while intoxicated, etc. Clearly, the time to open the lines of communication is now. Also, time to stop "cleaning" your 14yo's room. Don't mention finding the bong, unless you're prepared to lose his trust. Snooping and confronting is not the right way to deal with your child experimenting. |
Her DH never said it must mean he was smoking crack. He saw the bong and said he knew these could be used to smoke crack. He was right. Anyways you are never going to think anything but that obviously he is an idiot based on one sentence you have misstated because it really didn't matter what he said, it was an opportunity for you to bash a man. And you aren't going to change my mind that I don't think that either he or OP are idiots. I just think the whole name calling based on nothing other than that he is male is pathetic and immature. I am sure that won't stop you from posting on threads about how men are idiots and calling names. |

Once my mother found a tic tac in one of my pockets and assumed it was some sort of drug and went into her classic devastated diva "You know what you did!!" silent treatment mode- of course this was the night of my school awards where I got all kinds of accolades for getting high grades and whatnot.
So I don't think OP and her DH are nearly as naive or incompetent as they could be! |
| It's probably a bong for smoking pot. |
