Any good diet pills?

I love to cook, too, OP. One thing I have found helpful is to outlaw one culprit food - for me right now that is sugar. So I've been off any sugar (aside from fruit) for a week, and I've dropped a few pounds. Because my favorite indulgences have sugar AND fat in them, dropping the sugar drops a lot of extra calories. Some people go for moderation and counting calories, with nothing being off limits if eaten in small portions, but I find that too tempting. This way I can still cook and eat lots of stuff I really like, I'm a little hungry but not too bad, but I'm filling up on fruit, veggies, and protein. Good luck! Please don't feel down on yourself! You gained weight - you didn't neglect your child, commit murder, or refuse to help and old lady across the street. Its only fat, and its reversable.

OP, get a checkup. It could be your thyroid.

No good can come from pills. First of all they have health risks of their own. Second any kind of temporary fix like that creates long term problems. Either you go off the pills, in which case you haven't trained yourself to lose weight naturally and it will all come back on, or you don't go off the pills and you develop a dependence and health problems.

The thing about losing weight is that there are two parts -- the losing and the keeping off -- and they are related. If you don't lose the weight in a way that you can sustain, it will come back, perhaps even more.

And if this seems like a life and death situation to you, you may want to talk to a therapist. Your feelings are getting ahead of your rationality.

Most veggies don't have a lot of sugar.

I have not tried it but have several friends and family members who have had great (long term, even) success with it. Good luck!

Holy crap! That junk is expensive, and if it worked then doctors would be recommending it.

OP, the only long term way to make a change in your body is to re-evaluate your diet and exercise. Diet isn't something you do, it's something you have - the totality of what you eat and how much at the macro level.

Maybe think about joining Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig for the group support, and pick a reliable exercise plan. I personally recommend Insanity and P90x, but those aren't really for beginners. Beachbody (no, I'm not a Beachbody coach, I don't sell any of their products) is a good place to start - I've gotten great results from some of their challenging workout series.

I've had good success with OxyElite Pro and Hyrdroxycut. They are pretty good appetite suppressants.

If you're looking for a diet, the Dukan diet can work wonders. It's really made me think carbs are the devil, not fats or calories, and I think it's a healthier diet (once you're past stage 1).

Oh, and Paleo!

The person who said fruit and veg have too much sugar...um, no. Eating both - BOTH! not just veg - is associated with longer life and health than just about any other thing you can do, aside from exercise.

Anyway, seems to be working - subsisting on fruit, veg, and protein and the pounds dropping.

What is this, 1987? That's the last time I ever took diet pills and diuretics and not only jump started weight loss (I was trying so hard to lose 5 pounds so I could be 110 lbs) but also jump started an eating disorder.

Really, don't do this! I now have had heart issues (palpitations and irregular heartbeat) that stem from disordered eating and intense focus on weight loss/maintenance.

Far better to learn some basic nutrition and fitness facts, put these into practice and make a habit of making healthy choices. Wish someone would have told me this over 30 years ago...

Do you think you would have listened 30 years ago?

The info about how to lose weight in a healthy manner has not changed much. Everyone wants the easy way. It is not easy, it has gotten a lot more workable with a lot of apps that make tracking what you eat easier and there is more readily available info on nutritional content of foods. But the basic info that quick fixes don't work and can do damage has not changed. This is setting aside medical problems, which can be real. I completely agree with the PP's recommendation re getting your thyroid checked if you have cravings that are debilitating.

Get your thyroid checked, and also consider going no-sugar/low-carb. When you fill up on good fats, moderate protein, and mostly veggies (fruits maybe in limited quantities such as berries, but not bananas, high-sugar fruits), your appetite isn't as overwhelming as when you eat lots of high-carb foods (all grains, even whole grains) that spike your blood sugar and drop it again, thus stimulating appetite.

Also, low-impact but high-calorie burning exercises are great to help decrease appetite - a good hard workout can decrease your appetite.
