If you had $1,000 to spend on a purse, what would you get?

This. Classic and useful. Drool.

And I have the exact same purse. Got it for $16 at TJMaxx.

No you didn't.

Lucky you, OP!

I wish Nordstrom carried Mulberry b/c I think a Bayswater, although a little more expensive, would suit you perfectly. I'd also probably hoard my GC until I could afford a Tod's D-Styling satchel, but that's just me.

For $1k-ish, I'd get a solid color (not tricolor) Phillip Lim Pashli bag. You might also want to check out the offerings from Alexander Wang, Ferragamo, and the Michael Kors Skorpios bag.

That truly is a gorgeous purse....but I still could not ever bring myself to pay that much for a bag

That's about what I would spend/do too, BUT that is 100% not helpful for the OP, who prefers to spend on bags. I just bought a $450 pair of boots that are casual, you can't dress them up but you can wear them until the end of time during the day, and my handbag that I carry mostly right now is from target...............OP might find that ridiculous. Takes all kinds.

OP- I'm loving the Philip Lim bags that are around $1000 on there, especially the cobalt blue one but I guess that's not necessarily conservative if that's what you need.

One thing I am not getting though is the $1500 and up for the Stella McCartney bags- I thought those were all faux leather. I mean at that point you are buying a better stitched (at best) version of something from the $50 section at Macy's no?

I would get two MBMJ bags in whatever color I wanted without waiting for a sale or e-bay find.

She doesn't have cash. she has a gift card. my god.

Yes, she has a gift card. But she has determined to blow the entire $1000 on a single item, which is a waste. I would buy at least 20 items.

Yes, but the person said she should donate the money. Not buy several items.

20 items? At Nordstrom, how many things is she going to be able to buy for $50 each? Make-up and underwear and last season's shoes? some stuff from the sale rack that may or not be available in her size?

Yes, you got a copy of that design. You did not get a Marni bag for $16.

I didn't know there were so many people out there who actually spend this kind of money on a handbag. I guess I'm out of touch, but anything costing more than $150-$200 seems really excessive. I'm not exactly judging, I just have no experience with this sort of thing!

That was fun! I like this one. Over budget, but maybe last years. Who knew the folks in book club spent so much???

I don't think the OP asked for your personal judgments on whether she should spend the $1k on a bag. She asked for suggestions for an expensive bag. You may think it is "a waste," but maybe someone gave her this gift for a special reason and she's always wanted to buy an expensive bag.

^^ sorry missed that it was only Nordstrom! have fun, OP!

Michael Kors has a Saffiano leather bag that looks like a Prada or Celine but costs a lot less (like $400 instead of $2000+), I think it is called Selma -

This is OP. I am leaning towards something by Ferragamo, their designs are pretty timeless. The whole point is to get something I wouldn't normally get myself, because it's a lavish gift.

What do you guys think about these?

They look great. I love Ferragamo. I got one 6 years ago and use it pretty much everyday, and it still looks new and structured.
