If you had $1,000 to spend on a purse, what would you get?

Absolutely a fashion thread on DCUM is hilarious in itself. I do not expect to see any serious fashion discussion here. If you want to talk bags with fashionistas...come to The Purse Forum

I'm the person you quoted and hang out on TPF. There are a few of us in DC....

What do you guys think about these?

I had a bag like the first one. The slouchy look was nice, but it drove me crazy that things rolled into the corner folded part.

something vintage made in France or Italy in good...older items were made a lot better than newer ones today in many cases

Me too! But I live in MD!

I would spend the $1K on a ticket to Italy instead. Bought a bag last month in Bellagio. Quality leather, bright colors, convenience, and a $40 price tag. Oh, and I had a great time there, too!

such fun to see the title of the thread on DCUM and then go to the last page. Never on point.

This is OP, reporting back. At the end of the day I chickened out on the expensive bags and got this (in black): http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/furla-papermoon-satchel-medium/3504041?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=2375500&fashionColor=&resultback=147&cm_sp=personalizedsort-_-searchresults-_-undefined_1_A,

plus a new watch, earrings, and several clothing items. Although it's a bit difficult now to stop this shopping spree.

Perhaps the user above haven't experienced one, but there's a huge difference between a $100 vs. a $1000 bag. I am not rich or a label whore, but do have the eye and appreciation for quality/design to recognize the difference.

Not sure if Nordies will carry this, but a new line, Times Arrow http://shop.times-arrow.com, debuts their collection in department stores in August. Seems to be an excellent price for this quality and style, from what I can see. I plan on getting the Jo tote - perfect size for as a baby bag that's not ugly like everything else out there.

I spent a bit less than that for a ticket to France. Spent some of my time buying preowned designer purses in their resale shops. I also bought a new item in the Chanel shop there. Brought them back to the states and sold them all and kept one for myself. Even the item purchased at retail at Chanel in Paris sold for a profit here. The profit paid for my trip and I pocketed a few thousand extra.

PP, I've thought about shopping abroad and then reselling when I get back to the USA. Can you tell me what extra fees you had (customs) or if you got a trade discount while you were in Paris so that your profit margin would be better than the average US-Parisian shopper.

Thanks
