Hilary Rosen / Ann Romney

Who cares about Hillary Rosen. Seriously. She doesn't represent the DNC or the administration.

I did not blame President Obama for Rosen's statements. I just said that if you are inclined to vote for him and if you agree with Rosen, then you will defend her. Reread my post and you will see I am correct and that you are mischaracterizing my statements.

I resent that you believe that your opinions are the final word on what women want. You lack any respect for democracy because you believe you are right and that the voice of the people as expressed through voting is unnecessary because you have it all figured out. I am a woman, a lawyer, a mother, a volunteer with disabled and children, an abortion veteran and thus pro-choice, and a Republican. Don't dare to pretend that you can speak for me. You are arrogant and self-centered and I thank God (that I do believe in) that we live in the USA where people like you only get one vote. I know that if we didn't have as strong a government as we do, you and your kind wouldn't think twice about taking away my vote because you believe to your core that you know better than me.

NP here. My first reaction to your response post here is "huh"? What are you talking about? "You and your kind" taking away "my vote"? Where exactly are you getting this stuff from?

And so what if a Democrat is more inclined to be sympathetic to Rosen. You - as a Republican - are more inclined to be sympathetic it Romney. But what does that have to do with anything? Of course Democrats are more sympathetic to liberal viewpoints. Duh...what do you think makes us Dems?

The irony is that YOUR post also comes across as arrogant. You don't get to speak for us either, but guess what? Neither does Ann Romney. OR Rosen, which is partly the point, isn't it? Rosen doesn't speak for Obama or working women or anybody. She is a paid consultant who appears on CNN...that's all.

Personally, Mitt can use his wife as his "economic policy advisor" all he wants. It will just help him alienate himself from average America all the more and lose the Presidency.

I wholeheartedly believe that Ann Romney has "worked" - she has raised 5 children. That is work. Period.

But that doesn't mean she understands anything about the struggles working women face, and pretending that she does is laughable. Perhaps she is self-aware enough to be able to empathize with working women, but I think it is foolish to try to paint her as an expert on issues facing working women...

I read several of the articles. She's sure out there expressing her opinion!

I think much of the problem is the manner and wording of Ms. Rosen's comment: "never worked a day in her life." That's an extreme statement; and supposedly, she's an experienced public speaker. I think those words are exactly how she feels.

YUP--HER KIND IS THE KIND THAT THINKS SHE KNOWS BEST FOR ALL. READ WHAT SHE SAID. SHE THINKS ALL REPUBLICANS SHOULD STAY OUT OF WOMEN'S ISSUES. ISN'T THAT AKIN TO TELLING ME THAT MY OPINIONS ON SUCH MATTERS DON'T COUNT. NOT TOO MUCH OF A LEAP TO THINK THAT SHE WOULD BE HAPPY IF MY VOTE WAS SOMEHOW TAKEN AWAY. I THINK THAT MY RESPONSE TO HER WAS MODERATE AND MADE SENSE.

LOVE THIS ONE. NO BIG DEAL TO ME IF A DEMOCRAT IS SYMPATHETIC TO ROSEN. YES, I MAY BE MORE SYMPATHETIC TO ROMNEY ON SOME ISSUES. WHAT IT HAS TO DO WITH IS THAT THE ORIGINAL POSTER WAS TRYING TO CAST THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND ROMNEY AS THE CAUSE OF THE HILLARY ROSEN CONTROVERSY. THAT IS JUST PLAIN POLITICALLY MOTIVATED SPIN AND BS. REGARDLESS OF YOUR POLITICAL VIEWS, IT WAS ROSEN WHO PUT HER FOOT IN HER MOUTH AND SHE VERY APPROPRIATELY ACKNOWLEDGED AS MUCH WITHIN A COUPLE DAYS.

MY POST MAY SEEM ARROGANT TO YOU BUT YOU ARE PUTTING WORDS IN MY MOUTH THAT I NEVER SAID. I NEVER SAID I SPEAK FOR ANYONE BUT MYSELF. I DIDN'T TELL DEMOCRATS TO STAY OUT OF CERTAIN AREAS OF POLITICS. I DIDN'T SAY THAT ANN ROMNEY IS A MODEL WOMAN OR REPUBLICAN. I DIDN'T SAY ROSEN SPOKE FOR OBAMA. NOT SURE WHERE YOU ARE GETTING ALL OF THIS. MORE SPIN I GUESS.

Personally, Mitt can use his wife as his "economic policy advisor" all he wants. It will just help him alienate himself from average America all the more and lose the Presidency.

AT LEAST YOU CONCEDE IT IS A PERSONAL VIEW. MOST PRESIDENTS AND POLITICIANS HAVE UNELECTED ADVISORS. SOME ARE FRIENDS, SOME ARE SPOUSES. IT IS NORMAL AND EXPECTED. IT WILL NOT ALIENATE HIM FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE CONSIDERING VOTING FOR HIM. LET'S BE REAL, YOU ARE NOT AND NEVER WERE. DO YOU THINK M. OBAMA TALKS WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA ABOUT THINGS? IS THAT DIFFERENT SOMEHOW? IF IT IS DIFFERENT, IS IT BECAUSE SHE IS WAS A LAWYER?

I wholeheartedly believe that Ann Romney has "worked" - she has raised 5 children. That is work. Period.

AGREE.

But that doesn't mean she understands anything about the struggles working women face, and pretending that she does is laughable. Perhaps she is self-aware enough to be able to empathize with working women, but I think it is foolish to try to paint her as an expert on issues facing working women...

HOW CAN YOU SAY THIS? MONEY DOESN'T INSULATE PEOPLE FROM EVERYTHING. SHE HAS FACED LIFE STRUGGLES THAT WE ALL DO. DEATH OF FAMILY, THE CHALLENGES OF RAISING KIDS AND ALL THAT ENTAILS, HER OWN MORTALITY (HAD CANCER AND HAS MS). I CONCEDE THAT AS AN ADULT SHE HAS NOT HAD TO WORRY ABOUT MONEY (I DON'T KNOW ABOUT HER CHILDHOOD) AND SHE MAY NOT BE AN EXPERT ON THE ISSUES OF WORKING WOMEN. BUT NO ONE EVER SAID SHE IS AN EXPERT ON THAT. NO ONE!!! THE WHOLE DISCUSSION CAME ABOUT BECAUSE HILLARY ROSEN SAID ANN ROMNEY HAS NEVER WORKED. YOU ALREADY CONCEDED THAT RAISING KIDS IS WORK. ROSEN CONCEDED THAT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY.

WHEN THE ORIGINAL POSTER PUT UP HER COMMENTS AND TRIED TO BLAME THE WHOLE KERFUFFLE ON THE REPUBLICANS AND ROMNEY, I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A BUNCH OF GARBAGE. I DON'T THINK THAT IS WHAT THE WHOLE THING IS ABOUT. IT ACTUAL COMES DOWN TO WHETHER MODERN WOMEN WHO WORK AND RAISE KIDS THINK THAT A WOMEN WHO HAS STAYED HOME AND MAYBE HAS HAD A MORE PRIVILEGED LIFE HAS OPINIONS THAT COUNT. NOT EXPERT OPINIONS--JUST OPINIONS THAT COUNT. I ASKED THE OP WHAT SHE THOUGHT OF ROSEN'S COMMENTS AND NOT SURPRISINGLY SHE HASN'T RESURFACED. I THINK IT IS BECAUSE SHE KNOWS HER COMMENT WAS STUPID AND NOW DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO RESPOND.

I have responded to each of your comments above using caps.

I'm the OP (that's a masculine gender I, if it matters, of the Takoma variety), and I apologize that I was away during this whole discussion. After no messages on this forum for 24 hours, I did not expect so much so quickly. And I also apologize that I did not look on the Off-Topic forum.

Anyway, in answer to those who asked my opinion, I thought I gave it, namely that I interpreted the comment as a judgment of Mitt Romney for advertising that he uses his wife as an adviser on women's economic issues. I have nothing against Ann Romney, and I certainly think a man should discuss things with his wife. But I think it's ridiculous to admit publicly that this is his main source of advice.

Beyond that, I think it's ridiculous for the GOP to decide they have the right to anoint some dipshit commentator a spokesperson for the Obama campaign and to keep trying to tie her around their necks after they (with undue sheepishness) them by forswearing her not very well chosen, but quite reasonable, words. And the press, as a whole, let themselves be used by the GOP.

In brief, my opinion is that what she said is no big deal except for the distortion, willful or naive, that is going around.

But thanks for the responses. That's what I posted for, rather than to trumpet my own ideas.

Hillary Rosen was talking about economic issues. If you read the offending quote, you wouldn't have to waste all of those precious capital letters.

Capitalization poster is a lunatic.

Even if Ann Romney came from an impoverished background and had to struggle financially for some time before meeting Romney and his billions, I still wouldn't understand or trust such a statement from a future prospective president. Seriously? Your wife? That's your women issues advisor just because she is a woman? I can mention my husband as an example of men and issues in a company of friends but I wouldn't dream saying this at a work interview. In some way, this is his work interview stage and it's a bad plan. I would've preferred if he named a more scientific method of gathering data / opinions on women's issues, or someone who is expert in the field and relies on such scientific methods.

I wonder what my boss would say if I went to my job and said, "My husband says X Y and Z are important so that's what we'll talk about".

This crowd is so drunk on the democratic koolaid that you have no credibility. What about Clinton relying on Hilary to write his version if health care. She was unelected and not even an expert on health care. She is super bright and hard worker but that was beyond inappropriate and yet I'm sure this crowd will find some way to make that ok. The poster who got bet up by you people today made a lot of valid points but you cannot even slow down enough to consider them. Dcum is so slanted and the IQs are so low, I may just have to step back from here for a while. I wonder why I care for your views on real estate or schools.

Hi OP,
I am the one who asked your thoughts and then spent the day defending and reiterating my views. I appreciate your frank and moderated answer. I was subjected to significant personal attack today and I admit I dished out some lumps myself. Having read all the responses, it is clear the election year has people a bit excited and I think the issues
Rosen touched on with her remark really cut to the quick with a lot of folks. I guess the silver lining that I have from today is the feeling that people do care what politicians do. So many people don't vote or even care and I think that is the worse than anything.
Yours truly, the crazy, psycho, lunatic, woman, mother, wife, lawyer, republican, voter.
