Worried about my son being drafted

Anonymous
I think it’s a fair question. It’s been a year of insanity and I am ready to buy a place in my parents’ home country. My son isn’t going to be cannon fodder so a bunch of defense contractors can have a mansion in McLean and I’m prepared to never set foot in this country again to make sure of that.

You couldn't do a draft today. Too many on the spectrum, obese, anxiety and depression issues.

Most defense contractors cannot afford McLean.

1) it would grow him a spine
2) you unfortunately couldn’t be drafted with him so maybe he could Learn to advocate
3) it would launch him into a career - only 1:3 jobs in the military are actually offensive / weapons system related so he could instead pursue medical, administrative or dozens of other enlisted personnel categories that would never see active combat

Your fear of being drafted has reduced your family’s plight to that which was so eloquently described by Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men.

I don’t know. My dad’s whole family served in WW2 including at things llle the battle of the bulge. But during Vietnam’s he said he’d take my brother to Canada if his draft number came up. It’s one thing to sign up for war that important to protect our allies and democracy. It’s another to sign up for a war with no clear goals, that we initiated, and where the leadership doesn’t appear to know how to lead.

It’s not clear to me that the MAGAs believe those conditions exist. It would not totally surprise me if they ditched those rules because RFK, for example, has been pretty clear that he thinks things like adhd are made up and those prescriptions are bad.

People don’t need to wait to be drafted. If the draft re-emerges they can get ahead of it and join the Coast Guard.

You spend your time on the internet on DCUM to keep your sanity?

Yes..I just avoid politics & current events completely.

By…..commenting on political threads? Right.

Rich white lids don’t get drafted because their parents get them various deferments (I would!). It’s part of what makes it so unfair, but dont worry about your kid.

What deferments?

Exactly. Six Americans died since we struck Iran a few days ago. The military isn't perfectly safe and this isn't a war we need good men for.

Unfortunately I have no dual citizenship but my husband does. I've been bugging him to get our sons on the register of foreign births in that country so they would have it too. He doesn't seem to feel the urgency I do about this, but I want the three of them to be able to leave on a dime to keep my kids safe. I don't want them to die or kill for some old man's ego.

Are you new here? It's the 21st century. All warfighting is now done by the bottom 40% of the socioeconomic ladder. The top half are barely aware that fighting is even going on. Chill out.

He'll be fine, even if he is drafted. The military is a fine place where you men and women can grow and become leaders & global thinkers.

Hope your sons and daughters go first. They should volunteer today. No one is stopping you. My son will not be fighting in any Trump war.

She just needed to tell us how she is completely disengaged by asking us to summarize the current events for her.

The first 4 of the Iran War dead were Army Reservists working in a trailer.
