Worried about my son being drafted

There’s the dying part though so . . .

It’s fair. That’s the only way to get people invested enough in who they vote for.

This. The Swiss/Singapore model.

Conscientious objectors could get assigned as medics or in other non-combatant roles.

1) it would grow him a spine
2) you unfortunately couldn’t be drafted with him so maybe he could Learn to advocate
3) it would launch him into a career - only 1:3 jobs in the military are actually offensive / weapons system related so he could instead pursue medical, administrative or dozens of other enlisted personnel categories that would never see active combat

Your fear of being drafted has reduced your family’s plight to that which was so eloquently described by Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men.

I don't want my son killing people on Israel's behalf. Let Israel fight their own wars with their own sons and daughters.

Ok. How about those of us that didn’t vote for Trump and have kids at “woke elite” colleges- don’t have to go? No draft for them.

+1 PP can sign up their kids first. The rest of us want our kids alive.

Anyone worried about a draft is a certified moron... The US has enough troops to fight on multiple fronts and dominate. Unless we end up fighting China, you have nothing to worry about. If we are fighting China, there will be greater concerns than the draft - nukes for instance.

I've seen some pretty WWI rhetoric of people talking about how good a war would be for the younger generations. It's pretty chilling.

I would wait till this insane admin is out of power/

In VA, it’s automatic if they have a permit or license. They don’t have to register. Many states do it that way now.

But really, don’t worry about this. A draft will never happen now. You should see what it is like working with teens. They won’t take the ones who won’t want to be there. It’s impossible to get them to do anything they don’t want to do and you think they would go and actually fight for our country? Many wouldn’t. - hs teacher

You are an idiot.

I know three people whose sons died fighting in Ukraine after being drafted. I have one friend whose son did not die, but he obsessively repeats that it would have been better if he did, because he lost both arms and one leg.

War is terrible, and we are in a new era of war.

If my son were in the draftable age range, I would do whatever it takes to keep him undraftable.

+1 WWIII is not going to be a "boots on the ground" saga. Instead, we will blow the world up with our nukes. You don't need to worry about a draft; you need to be worried about the world being annihilated.

Failing to register within the allotted time can cause permanent loss of some Federal benefits, such as student loans. There are real consequences to evading registration.

By contrast, Federal law does not allow a draft at present. Congress would have to enact a draft law, among other steps, before a draft could exist in the US. So there is no real risk of being drafted into the military.

Real Consequences of evading, but no real risk of being drafted. Some folks here need to put their brain in gear.

Here’s the list of states where registration is tied to the DMV. I’m surprised how many of you don’t know this! It looks like it is currently active for VA and DC. It was passed for MD but paused because of funding issues.

There won't be a draft and that's exactly why you should support active duty military personnel and veterans. They and their families are the ones actually taking this on.

It drives me nuts when people don't want their own family members drafted and then also complain about how much our government spends to have an elite military force and to support veterans with health care, tax benefits, GI bill, etc.

You don't get it both ways. Hopefully the next time you vote, you vote for people who support the military and veterans, now that you realize how much you don't want to foot that bill at the risk of your own child's life.
