Worried about my son being drafted

They could not have been drafted by the US Government. Impossible. There is no draft in the USA.

If they live in Ukraine and Ukraine has a draft (which seems likely), then they were drafted by Ukraine -- and not by the US.

This thread is about people who are living in the USA, not about people who are living in a different country.

It drives me nuts when people don't want their own family members drafted and then also complain about how much our government spends to have an elite military force and to support veterans with health care, tax benefits, GI bill, etc.

You don't get it both ways. Hopefully the next time you vote, you vote for people who support the military and veterans, now that you realize how much you don't want to foot that bill at the risk of your own child's life.

I have zero problems with supporting veterans with health care, tax benefits, GI bill, etc. I do have a problem with funding the pentagon and the defense contractors. I also has a problem with making more and more weapons rather than focusing on training for people which is a far better use of funding. Finally I am thoroughly opposed to wars like Iraq, Afghanistan, and now the idiotic Iran boondoggle where your sons and daughters get put in harms way for absolutely no reason at all.

If we are trying to anticipate what a draft might look like, looking at the experience in other countries that instituted a draft during a time of war makes sense.

Ugh. I don’t want a draft. I don’t want my 18 year old son having to go and fight in a pointless war for this idiot president. But maybe if we actually had a draft, people like this PP wouldn’t “avoid politics and current events” because she couldn’t bury her head in the sand if she had a teen son. And then maybe we would actually expect our congress to be responsible. PP - I hope you don’t vote.

Studies show that people who watch the most TV news and/or get their news from social media are LESS well informed than people who avoid it.

Maybe YOU shouldn’t vote?
