It's very popular. |
| I think it's self-selection. JHU has one of the best medical schools in the country so a fair number of pre-meds want to go there. Chicago at 20% Asian Americans is not that different from schools like Brown or Dartmouth or Northwestern. |
It seems more than 20% Asian, this includes international and south Asian?? |
+1 |
You are confused. You don’t rely on observation to come to conclusion. Chicago has a lot of graduate students, many of them Asian. So the campus may appear more Asian. |
What’s CM? CMU? On a recent episode of the Netflix Korean dating show “Singles Inferno”, one contestant was revealed to have attended CMU. The other contestant that she was on a date with (who happens to be a UC Berkeley CS/Math grad, now quant trader) was very impressed, and the show’s hosts noted that while CMU is not well known in Korea, it has a very good reputation in the US. |
| Chicago is taking more and more students ED, so it also skews wealthier which may favor certain populations. |
As most universities with a full-fledged college of engineering, mechanical and electrical are often the largest in headcount (faculty or undergrads), while industrial is often the smallest. The ratio of largest to smallest can be as high as 4 to 1. Molecular engineering at UChicago only has 184 undergraduates, which is all it has since there is no other engineering there. In comparison, biomedical engineering at JHU alone has 475 undergraduates, while mechanical engineering at Northwestern alone has 300 undergraduates. So it's not close. |
Every thread has to detail thanks to the UChicago haters |
OP, you can look up the demographics for each school here, under “enrollment”. https://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/?q=University+of+Chicago&s=all&id=144050#enrolmt Keep in mind that “international” is not counted (and is primarily Asian at both schools). The multi-race and, especially, unreported categories also skew Asian. There are more Asians at JHU but the difference is not as large as you think. The difference can be attributed to more pre-med at Hopkins, a greater percentage of students receiving financial aid at Hopkins, and Chicago taking about 80% of its class in their numerous ED rounds (and their related love for private school kids). The “easiest” top 10 -or even top 25 admit - is an ED application to Chicago. |
Nope, not even close. It's Cornell for ED. WashU ED and Michigan EA/ED are also significantly easier. After seeing data from different private schools, UChicago will not take anyone with a low GPA and a test score under 1500. Cornell, WashU, Michigan, however, will, and they take these kids often. You see in these schools' ED: 3.6/33 accepted, 3.7 1450 accepted, 3.6 1420 accepted, etc and they werent legacy either. UChicago draws a harsh academic line. Your post reeks of bitterness and jealousy. Seek help |

Where did you get these numbers? USNEWS has Harvard at 24% Asian. |
| My kid is a first year at Harvard. The class of 2029 is 41% Asian |
