You're compared first and foremost against classmates and then your school district. Look at the stats for how many kids apply to each Ivy from a single high school in MCPS (or FCPS) or then the district at-large. It's dozens and dozens and then 1 or 2 will be admitted across the entire county. You can be sure that the 1 or 2 admits do not have an SAT in the 1400s.

The same goes for the top DMV privates. There will be 15 kids who apply to Brown (for example). Any admitted unhooked will be an
academic superstar with SAT of 1550+. This 100% was the reality last year when my oldest kid was a senior.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. I believe there are multiple ivy admits at every FCPS school per the school’s senior year instagram posts.

There were 41 freshman students enrolled at Yale from the entirety of Virginia last year.

You are terrible at drawing conclusions. Please don’t state things as fact when you truly have no idea what you’re saying. Every HS in FCPS has multiple ivy admits annually. It is NOT only 1-2 admits a year out of the 10th largest school district in the nation.

Look at Arlington County publics. Arlington Magazine. Out of 4 high schools - 2,000 seniors only 0-2 total students are admitted to one of the Ivies, Duke, etc any give year.

that seems like a lot! if you're not one of the top 200 kids in your state, you're not going to HYPSM - who take about 200 kids. that seems about right.

The poster did not say Yale initially. The poster said: “Look at the stats for how many kids apply to each Ivy from a single high school in MCPS (or FCPS) or then the district at-large. In response to being told she’s wrong, she said Yale only admitted 41 from VA last year. Not even sure if that’s true but that absolutely is not the same as saying 1-2 get into ivies from FCpS.

Admitted or enrolled? BIG difference, FYI.

The unhooked and legacies admitted from the top HS and privates in the DMV have the highest test scores.

The scores shift down when you add in recruited athletes, first gen’s from poor school districts and rural areas- since there is no test optional.

People are idiots if they think they will be admitted with scores in the 25% or less around here.

Yes. Proving the point. Missing 6 of the Ivies. Those numbers are very small for wealthy, big Yorktown HS.

Yes. There is a table that summarizes the numbers. Among 4 HSs: 0 Princeton, 2 Duke, 1 Dartmouth, 1 Brown, 1 Yale, etc. Then many are athletes—
