No kidding. If OP is so disdainful of sororities and fraternities and is certain that her children shouldn't join, why the question? (other than to troll). |
|
You have a disgusting outlook on life.
My kids are adults they’ll choose if they want to join or not. |
OP here. I asked the question to see what others thought. Maybe I could change my mind with more data beyond my small sliver of experience. Certainly, the final decision will be my children’s choice. I was never a helicopter parent deciding everything. So far, I am still getting that same vibe from the pro-Greek side as I did back then, similar to a time-share hustler: “I know stuff, lots of stuff more than you do, so if you know what’s good for you then you’ll join. Don’t you want to be better than everyone else?” I did receive a bid but declined. I recall hearing, “We wasted beer on this person.” Perhaps all these frat/sorority goobers is why the DC Metro area is so snooty and stuck up. |
And certainly your house can be so proud of the person you’ve become. |
Greek nerds? Or feeling defensive? |
Obviously I’m not wrong though. |
Obviously? So you have some sort of magic screen that can see into the hearts of other posters. Or you’re psychic? Mmm hmm. |
Most frats are mainly for White (or Black) kids. Not very inclusive. Very segregated racially. Most members behave like a-holes. Don't know about sororities. We are not White, and literally every kid in our family that attended college and went to frat parties talks about how racist members are towards non-Whites. One nephew did join a frat and, other than 'bro affectations', didn't get much out of it. Almost all of these kids are doing well in life, high paying jobs or on the way to one (e.g. med/law school). The couple that are not doing that well are in that position due to lack of academic achievement and ambition rather than lack of a frat network. Lack of frat/soro membership has had no impact on their network or qol, during or after college. |
I mean, you’re not denying it so . . . |
| Gently discouraging. If one of the kids really wanted to join, and was willing to pay for it, we wouldn't hassle them about it. |
| So many nerds |
Greek nerds! |
I can’t deny or confirm. My school didn’t have Greek life. Why so defensive? |
Who would want to belong to a group with mean girls like you? Why so defensive + insulting? |
My girls were in sororities. They’re cute, smart, outgoing, successful, level headed — and very nice. There are worse things, right? Like being jealous of girls who are cute, smart, outgoing . . . |
