Aspen Hill also feeds Kennedy HS and parts of Wheaton HS (basically the DCC).

OP here, we're looking to move to somewhere around the Barnsley/Flower Valley clusters, or if we can find a cheaper way out we can go through where east of 97 where it takes us to the Kennedy cluster, but I'm worried about that because I forgot to mention I have an only child who is about to be in 8th grade in the upcoming year and I've heard the middle school (Argyle) is also pretty bad.

It is an amazing affordable close in place near a metro.

My daughter had a Friend over there so been there a few times. One thing to note it is very Hispanic. Tons of Spanish speaking people. Meaning my daughters friends parents as well as my Mechanic I use over there who is great both barely speak English so hard to communicate even though I speak a little spanish. So harder to get to know neighbors if you dont speak Spanish

Oh then yes you should come! One year at Wood and then you’ll be at RHS. My kids are thriving there. Join one of the pools (FV pool or manor woods) and your son will have a lot of friends around.

This is code for working class Hispanic families.

Aspen Hill has a consortium for middle school. You can pick Argyle, Parkland or Loiderman.

All my Spanish neighbors are bilingual, with varying levels of accent. A few of my close Spanish friends sometimes pretend to not know much English to avoid getting into conversations with certain people, lol.

We are in the Barnsley cluster at Manor Woods. It's a great family friendly neighborhood but I would not call it elegant. Just normal people living normal lives.

True Story back in 1977 a Dodge Aspen was going up a Hill in Maryland and broke down.

That location in Maryland was later named Aspen Hill.

How do you know that?

I bought the house where I live it right now back in the last week of Aug 2001 and we were planning to get a tour of the new house that I bought, unfortunately it was halted because it concurred on the same day when 9/11 happened so our tour was halted for about a month and I have no idea why still. 🤷‍♂️ I didn’t start moving in the house until November that year.

Then ‘02 came and the sniper attacks were infamous around our area. I vividly remember going through the shopping center where the Giant was happening and everyone suddenly panicking once we got notified of the attack at that Home Depot.

Nothing bad has really happened to our area as far as I’m aware, I love Aspen Hill still and even if we don’t offer much, we hold lots of diversity and many people I’ve seen are very friendly!

That’s scary. I feel sorry for your first few months after moving here and the first full year being difficult for you to move into your new home. I am a fellow AH resident too and I remember looking into the news when the sniper attacks happened.

It was named for the aspen trees which grew near the first post office there.

There's some dude on here who likes to make up racist stories about how places in MoCo were named. It's a symptom of NoVa inferiority complex.

I have not been there in years, but I recall that it’s very suburban (for those who like that vibe) with large homes built in the late 60s or 1970s. Lots of trees. The homes in Aspen Hill remind me of those near Lake Braddock Secondary School between West Springfield and Burke in Northern Virginia.

Aspen Hill is conveniently just up Georgia Ave from the Glenmont Metro. So Metro convenience should help maintain the area’s desirability.
