I’m planning to move to Aspen Hill in about a few months and I’ve heard it’s a small area but very elegant and friendly people. I have a friend who’s lived there since 2003 and they’ve had no problems of living in the place, but he’s said it’s gotten extremely expensive there compared to other places in MoCo.
Is it still affordable to live in? And are the houses there nice despite being expensive? |
Don’t consider moving. I have been a living there since around 1980-ish?? and the town has gotten worse almost every year. |
Define extremely expensive. Most everywhere in MOCO is expensive but Aspen Hill is one of the less expensive. It’s also not a small area and the housing stock varies widely. Have you even looked at Redfin? |
It's not elegant. What's your budget? |
Nice try Pinocchio. Flower Valley is elegant though. |
It's affordable and not elegant. I like it though, I live in a quiet neighborhood, we have less traffic than many areas of MoCo, and it's more affordable than many places but prices have gone up here as well. Sfh on my street just sold for 680k. |
I live in Silver Spring and travel by Aspen Hill frequently. It's fine and safe, but "very elegant" isn't really how I'd describe it. In fairness, though, "very elegant" really doesn't apply to any part of the DMV. The DMV is more frumpy than elegant. |
Aspen Hill is very working class. Wheaton Woods Elementary School is a Title 1 school. So is Wheaton High School. Many are in ESOL.
Lots of ethnic restaurants, Costco and Wheaton Plaza. Houses are reasonable. Don’t expect elegant. |
Flower Valley is nearby in Rockville. I live in Aspen Hill. Elegant is not a word I'd use to describe it. My neighborhood is diverse, middle class and welcoming. People are friendly and it is a safe area. Not much excitement, not too expensive and I'm not moving anytime soon. |
Where? By worse, do you mean more brown? The county has gone downhill in general, not just one neighborhood. |
Aspen Hill is big, which parts(what streets) are you looking at? Part of Aspen Hill feeds into Rock Creek Valley/Wood/Rockville HS. We have been happy with that cluster (wood isn’t great, but middle school is middle school). |
Nailed it |
Costco and Wheaton Plaza are in Wheaton (hence the name). Both are heavily Hispanic, especially historically, which might explain your confusion. |
My first three years at Aspen Hill were difficult. I bought the house where I live it right now back in the last week of Aug 2001 and we were planning to get a tour of the new house that I bought, unfortunately it was halted because it concurred on the same day when 9/11 happened so our tour was halted for about a month and I have no idea why still. 🤷♂️ I didn’t start moving in the house until November that year.
Then ‘02 came and the sniper attacks were infamous around our area. I vividly remember going through the shopping center where the Giant was happening and everyone suddenly panicking once we got notified of the attack at that Home Depot. Nothing bad has really happened to our area as far as I’m aware, I love Aspen Hill still and even if we don’t offer much, we hold lots of diversity and many people I’ve seen are very friendly! |
Flower Valley is Rockville, but moreso it’s just a “neighborhood” in Aspen Hill. My kid just calls it the “Potomac of Rockville/Aspen Hill” and I would disagree with him. |
