According to this webpage, they give financial aid to 20% of their students with an average gift of almost $40,000 per year. It comes to almost $3 million total. I don’t know how that compares to other schools. https://www.fieldschool.org/admission/tuition-financial-aid |
| For the timing of the upgrades, my understanding is the athletic field will be out of commission next year (back online school year after next)...and buildings done in 2 years if stays on track (so hopefully current Sophomore class's last semester senior year)....While we'll only get a little bit of the it with a kid in that class - who LOVES Field - we think it's a wonderful step forward for the school and the kids coming up behind.... |
| we declined for 9th. |
| Yes always heard that Bullis / Field are super silmilar.. but Bullis is a bit more rigorous and doesn’t have as much support for learning differences. For some reason people talk about Bullis more on this site. I think there will be lots of movement, but no idea how they pull from the pool. |

Um, Bullis and Field are night and day. Bullis is K-12, very large, sprawling campus with a heavy focus on sports. Field is very small on a beautiful but small campus in NWDC. Sports are not a thing at Field (they have teams but nobody would go to Field for sports purposes).
I could keep going but no reasonable person could visit both schools and think that they’re similar. |
Bullis looked more racially diverse but culturally more conservative to us. Maybe it's the uniforms? Field felt more progressive, but less racial diversity. It's also much smaller than Bullis so maybe hard to compare the diversity with the two schools. But I agree, very different vibes at the two schools. |
I came of age when Bullis was a glorified public and Field was in townhouses across the street from each other. Both have changed, but I cannot imagine anyone thinking they are similar. |
It does fly a bit under the radar, but less the last few years and admissions have become tough. I think families recognize that it’s a lower pressure school with impressive college results. The teachers are fantastic, and the school-wide approach to inquiry and learning is inspiring. It feels like a cohesive approach to education and preparing kids for the future. The campus improvements have been great and the new building will allow the school to serve more students. |
| Keep us posted, OP! Fingers crossed for your DS! |
I’ve said for years that if college outcomes are an important factor in your school selection, Field is the best life hack in the area. If your kid is hardworking and smart, they will almost certainly rise to the top 20% of their class at Field. And unquestionably, the top 20% of each year’s class go to top 25 universities. Even the top tier of students at Field are under a tiny fraction of the pressure that their UNWDC peers experience. This is absolutely not a criticism of Field - the exact opposite. |
+1 Their college list looks similar to many of the more talked about schools on this forum and they don’t have the number of athletic recruits |

Field marketers are all over this board especially now as its acceptance season. There have been several years of scandals at Field and most of it was scrubbed from the board. As well complaints about the school quickly get removed -
We found the school to be warm but lacking in any kind of intellectual rigor. High priced and just kind of a dumb place with a lot of uninteresting suburban families with a little bit of money. Sort of like the head of school. Who fits right into that mold. Burke though more urban was for us far more sophisticated and serious about education with deeply thought out connective tissue across the learning centers. And teachers that are more educated and well read. But again. Know that the Field marketers start and manage threads on this board aggressively. So expect them to pounce on this with testimonials about how fabulous the place is. It’s not. It’s a B- place with B- teachers and B- kids. |

Well, I’m one of the PPs and definitely not a Field marketer. I had a kid there who ended up going to a different school. I also think the HoS is totally mediocre.
But, I think the school is generally great and the college outcome thing is really indisputable. |
Why would you even comment if you aren’t a Field family or someone who got in off the waitlist. Take your garbage elsewhere and stop trying to derail the thread. |
I don't have a kid at this school, but this is quite the crazy conspiracy theory going on here from a Burke family. |
