| ^^or girl dinner. Whatever. The way we always eat and never thought to brag? share? |

It’s not new, and it’s not Swedish.
It’s been a huge thing online for a few years and generally falls into two categories: (1) white women who are into the “trad” thing, with a strong undercurrent of S&M, and (2) black women who are fed up with “struggle love” and want to “rest in their feminine”, ie want sugar daddies. Neither group is actually interested in a normal healthy partnership that falls along traditional gender norms. Maybe the Swedish women do. They’re less ridiculous in general. |
|
There was a bit on WTOP this morning about “trad wives” and they mentioned it is “sweeping Sweden” and there was an interview with a woman in Sweden who was going on about how her life is “softer.”
Weird. |
Except for no legal protection and no right to any each other's finances/protection Young people are going to be stupid and pretty/handsome people think that is their status quote forever Hopefully they have excellent financial advice from somewhere else ( I doubt it) |
| I don’t care what kind of life a women wants for herself. It’s all fine by me. But the social media trends are really annoying. |
I rarely eat like that. |

I heard the story on the BBC yesterday and it wasn't framed as being new or Swedish.
The story was framed as this: women have been strongly encouraged to enter the workforce and be equals since the 50s in Sweden. Feminism and equal rights has long been a part of their national ethos, so there is a surprise that so many Swedish women are picking up on the international trend. They interviewed two different female Swedish politicians about their views on this. So no..not a history of soft girls or trad wives, but a look into how Sweden, notoriously and for a long time feminist, is dealing with the trend. |
Eat like what? Wtf is girl dinner supposed to mean? |
When they get screwed over, they’ll take to social media and act like they’ve discovered feminism and everyone will tell them that they’re stunning and brave. |
You mean like how human life was for thousands of years except the last 50 years of radical feminism? And now wage growth has ceased, everyone is depressed and on SSRIs, and nobody is having (enough) kids. |
It's when you're alone and want a dinner that is easy, usually doesn't involve cooking or cleanup, and wouldn't be considered a "real meal" by a lot of people. So like, a glass of wine and some cheese/charcuterie with a hunk of baguette. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/08/style/girl-dinner.html?unlocked_article_code=1.fE4.X0T0.NYV2YGBlVT0K&smid=url-share |
Not a girl dinner. Two pickles, a few turkey pepperoni, and a handful of Oreos is more like it. |
I absolutely hate this. It's so regressive. Like a woman alone does not merit a full home cooked meal. I get being tired and not wanting to cook, but OTOH it's implying women should subsist on air and a few handfuls of popcorn, and actual meals are just for men/families. I am single and enjoy cooking healthy hot meals. I can save the leftovers for tomorrow and/or know how to make quick meals in less than 10 minutes. I deserve a home cooked meal at the end of the workday as much as anyone else! |
+1 and every single time to think they are inventing the wheel. |
Okay so it’s eating. It’s eating a light meal, or maybe even snacking or grazing. What is it about young women going out of their way to be idiots? The end goal for all of these chronically online women is to land a man with money. Or, in Internet-speak, a “provider” or “high value man”. But the thing is that normal successful man with integrity think these women are daft and don’t see them as marriage material. They marry their peers from college or grad school. And the men who are simply rich just pretend they’re interested until they’re done using them, while laughing at them behind their backs. I work with rich men. They have even less respect for young women embracing this “mindful and demure” thing than they did for them when they were all on Only Fans. |
