Fall Brawl

Dulles South had one coach for years who gave the program a bad name. He is gone now and hopefully the program is a better environment.

This is a shame as it does take away from what Marty who runs fall brawl originally wanted from this event. It is definitely not his issue as he would have no way of monitoring this nor should he. This is a great event and I hope NVYLL teams try to stick to just the NVYLL club in the future. There are enough chances for club teams to play together.

It is because Fall Brawl is not on most rec kids radar. You have to be proactive and approach the people that run the rec programs to see if they are fielding teams and go from there (at least for most programs). Not surprisingly, the parents of kids that play club tend to be the most proactive about it and want their kids to play more year around than rec parents. It is what it is.

If they removed the rec club name from the teams then it would make more sense. That's what makes it confusing, parents see the rec club names and naturally assume it's a rec club based event. Either rules need to be enforced by Fall Brawl and NVYLL member clubs, or stop pretending it's a rec club event.

They've had a limit of 3 forever, mostly a good thing for teams that may need help filling out.

Not on the tournament, anything along these lines is on the rec clubs. They should act like adults.

Vienna has been mentioned a few times as one of the organizations that fields all star teams, is this mostly on the boys side?

When I look at the roster for my DD’s Team there is only one guest player, and from what I understand she didn’t have a rec team to play for and was friends with several of the girls on the team. Other than this exception, all of the other team members played for Vienna this past spring. Some play club lacrosse and some do not.

Playing in Fall Brawl used to be a fun, noncompetitive experience for rec teams to play teams they normally didn't play. it's one if my oldest son's fondest memories of lacrosse. He loved playing against club friends who lived in different school districts. now it's just another tournament dad coaches have ruined.

I'm surprised they haven't started selling game film.

Be part of the solution and organize a team. Fall Brawl is not sponsored or managed by the Rec organizations. It is mostly volunteer parents and coaches that register, manage, and coach. Don't blame the Rec Orgs. They are not involved at all. There are plenty of overzealous parents creating super teams to play but we need more parents that volunteer with a different mindset to make this event what everyone remembers.

Been doing Fall Brawl for years - it's definitely advanced from a "let's enter our rec teams from last spring to keep a stick in their hands over the winter" to "let's enter 1 All-Star team in each age group and hope the other players don't find out we're playing...."

Agree it seems against the spirit of Marty/Robin (who have been great to run this tournament every year) but not much they can do.

To my knowledge, Dulles South is the only club doing this. The coach is known as a massive douchebag and the guest player shouldn’t be allowed. Really hope we beat them.

Rec teams do often combine for Fall Brawl at the younger age groups because it’s hard to field a team for it. Many have just wrapped up soccer tournaments, have started their wrestling or whatever winter sport they play, and don’t want to come out for it. That’s entirely different from cherry picking all stars and still asking guest players (who absolutely have shiny helmets) to join.

It’s not just Dulles South now, most of the teams are doing the same thing. Dulles South ruined it by forcing the hand of other teams. It’s not fun for kids to get blown out so the all star teams are now a thing. One thing everyone can agree on though, the Dulles South coaches are the main d bags. It will be fun to see their teams all lose this weekend.

Marty Megabucks and Robin Robbery. Paying for one referee per game. Too cheap. Dont care about quality officiating or player safety.
Got to be da Money!

Not on the u10 team……

Feel free to pony up and get more referees.
