Wont let my son around people that discrimminate. |
| So I'm assuming the answer is yes, you would let your daughters do sleep overs with all male hetro chaperones? |
|
Sorry people...But this is America. Some choose to believe in God, some dont. Some choose to think Homosexuality is wrong, some dont.
If you have a problem with believing in God or offended because the BSOA doesnt allow Gays to chapperone or be leaders, Then DONT JOIN. They're a private group that can make rules how they like them. There are plenty of other organizations that cater to others beliefs. Trying to make everyone a cookie cutter society is really boring and unrealistic. |

I don't think that's what many/most of us on this thread are trying to do. We're just looking for BETTER places for us to send our sons. We are doing exactly as you say, that is, NOT JOINING a group with whose principles we strongly disagree. |
Okay, so following this logic, let's say that my daughter who is black wants to join the Girl Scouts. All of her friends are Brownies. But they are a private group, and as such, believe that she is not "morally straight" because she is black. She cannot therefore be a brownie. Should my white friends just stand by and let this happen because this is America, and therefore if people have a problem with my daughter they can choose to exclude her? Curious. |
Wow, I had no idea of the Boy Scouts policy about homosexuality. I guess my kids won't be scouts. Interestingly enough, both of my gay brothers were cub scouts and boy scouts ... I'll have to let them know about the moral guidance policy- I'm sure they'll have a laugh that it didn't work
How about the girl scouts though? Do they have a policy? BTW, my girl scout leader was a male .. and yes, he chaperoned camping trips ! |
| I would absolutely let my daughter go camping with male hetero chaperones, as long as I knew them well. I don't think all men (straight OR gay) should be suspect just because a very few men are pedophiles. I value her having male role models. |
| Thanks for posting that link. No Boy Scouts for my son. |

Re whether the Girl Scouts reject gay leaders (like the Boy Scouts do) --
Quote from an article from The Advocate (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1589/is_n737/ai_20139066) For its part, the Girl Scouts explicitly rejects the Boy Scouts' policy as "limiting" and "discriminatory," spokeswoman Ellen Ach says. The two organizations are entirely separate entities, she insists, and the Girl Scouts has no policies governing the sexual orientation of anyone involved. Says Ach: "We do have strict standards about how adults conduct themselves when they are in the presence of girls. We have strict standards as far as who are volunteers and how they are selected. But we welcome everyone regardless of their sexual orientation to be Girl Scout leaders." |
| So based on the Boy Scouts policy, how do you feel about the US Military Policy? Isn't it basically pretty much the same minus the don't tell option? No gays? Trust in God? Yes, No? The same. |
Speaking for myself, yeah I do not like the don't ask don't tell policy on the same grounds. Is Trust in God really a policy/requirement for our military? I had no idea. That strikes me as not okay either. |
| Oh and just to add -- please don't hit me with a bunch of "you don't support our soldiers" crap. I can admire those young men and women without supporting the military policy just as I'm sure many/most Boy Scouts are good kids and not bigots. |
| OMG--I read those FAQs...and I am afraid! Yikes. No Scouts for my DS. |
No, all the kids in Boy Scouts ARE bigots. Haven't you heard??? |
