| My ds wants to be a boy scout, but I wont let him because of the Boy Scouts' discrimination policy against homosexuals. My son needs an outlet since his father is physically unable to do the types of activities that the Scouts do. Does anyone have any recommendations for Boy Scout like organizations? |
| I'm not questioning your decision, but I'm just curious.... do they really have a "discrimination policy"? I would've thought that would be illegal in at least some states. |

This is from their website:

| It's a real shame. I'm not going to let my boys do boy scouts either since they are blatently discriminatory. Don't know of a similar organization though. |

Roots & Shoots www.rootsandshoots.org
Earth Scouts www.earthscouts.org Spiral Scouts www.spiralscouts.org |
| Their discrimmination is legal. |

Camp Fire Kids.
http://www.campfire.org/council_locator/ BTW, it is not illegal to discriminate against homosexuals in this country. |
Something about it being a private organization/membership related group makes it ok for them to set the rules therefore it is legal. It does not make it okay but it does make it legal. |
| Wow. I had no clue that's what the Boy Scouts were all about. I had some vague Idea that they were all about learning survival techniques and things of that nature. "Duty to God" What?! |
| Would you let your daughters do camping sleep overs with all male hetro chaperones? I wouldn't. Same reason I would not send my son to do camping sleep overs with all men homo chaperones. |
| 11:26 - Likening a homosexual to a pedophile is wrong on sooo many levels. Flame away, people! |
|
Just because someone is gay does NOT mean that they would ever do anything harmful to a child of the same sex! Most pedophiles are hetereosexual, not gay or lesbian.
I am saddened to hear that someone is reticient to have a male gay leader out of fear that this individual would not be good for kids. Even sadder if this belief is shared with the child. Wow. |
| I have issues with their discrimination against gays AND their policy that you have to profess a belief in God. Not for our family. I've heard good things about Campfire kids though. |
Just to clarify, in certain states in this country (I think even in DC), it IS illegal to discriminate against homosexuals. |
