Washington lawyer accused of paying 15-year-old runaway for sex

Almost only counts in Horseshoes. She was 15; he paid her, took photographs. How would you feel if this were your 15 yr. old daughter. Stop defending perverts. You must be a lawyer.

This story made me nauseous when I read it. Stories of abuse of small children keep me up at night. So, my reaction to the latter is stronger. Does it mean that the former isn't so bad? Not one whit. He's still a child molester.

You're surprised, OP? Not in the least, I hope.

It truly shocks me that people on DCUM feel this way. Truly.

Yup - me too. Unbelievable to defend his actions, or rationalize them away.

10:18 here, I agree with this btw. Still, I can't believe that a lawyer would be so stupid as to commit this sort of crime while ensuring there is ample documentation of it. It's not as bad as molesting an 8 year old, but come on, can't you find an 18 year old hooker? Is that so very difficult?

Do you believe that lawyers are exempt from stupidity? They robably do more stupid things than we non-lawyers because of their arrogance. Yeah. One less lawyer. Every single loss helps.

I guess you're not as "safe" from perverts or anything else even if you DO live in homes worth $1million+ neighborhood and with upper middle class white folks.

I like this one and it's a good lesson for people who think they are so rich, classy and snobs......Am so glad these things also happen in "their so called rich neighborhoods".....serves you all right!

Totally agree. I don't care how she looked, how she acted, how much she "asked for it," a grown man knows full well it is not okay to have sex with a 15yo girl.

You're glad that there's a one more child molester on the street just so it could be a good lesson to rich people?

Yeah, I think I get what she's saying - that this serves as a wakeup call that bad things can happen in "good neighborhoods," or that money doesn't shield people from doing bad things - but she definitely goes too far with "serves you all right." No neighborhood deserves a child molester.

Well, you know, folks at BigLaw are so busy that they do not always have time to cross the i's and dot the t's.

According to the law, it's exactly what he is.

This poster's statement assumes incorrectly that a 15 year old has the maturity and judgment to understand the full consequences of what she was doing. She doesn't. Don't blame the victim.

On the other hand, the 38 year old, highly educated defendant likely had the experience and judgment to conclude what he was doing was wrong, at least by society's standards. He simply choose to do it anyway. I suspect he didn't think he'd get caught. Who's going to believe some poor troubled girl vs. a "pillar of the community"?

Why is a 15 year old an innocent, victimized "child" when she voluntarily prostitutes herself, but she is a "woman" who can obtain an abortion without her parents' consent in many jurisdictions in this country? Either a 15 year old is mature enough to have sex and deal with the consequences, or she isn't.

When I was 15, I looked 20. I had older men hitting on me all the time. Men in their 40s. If she lied and said she was 18 ... let's not judge without all the facts.
