Washington lawyer accused of paying 15-year-old runaway for sex

This isn't the same as a 15 year old having sex with her 16 year old boyfriend - even a 25 year old boyfriend, although in the latter example I would still be FAR more critical of the 25 year old.

Although, no, to answer your question I don't really think the vast majority of 15 year olds are emotionally prepared to have sex.

Because I'm quite sure there a lot of 15 year old girls who are sexually active.

if so, then with other 15 yo boys.

10:18 here, I agree with this btw. Still, I can't believe that a lawyer would be so stupid as to commit this sort of crime while ensuring there is ample documentation of it. It's not as bad as molesting an 8 year old, but come on, can't you find an 18 year old hooker? Is that so very difficult?

Do you believe that lawyers are exempt from stupidity? They robably do more stupid things than we non-lawyers because of their arrogance. Yeah. One less lawyer. Every single loss helps.

Luckily the economy is also flusing them out of their sewer holes as well.

Totally agree. He's hardly a threat to the safety of the community.

How about he moves next door to you?

Better yet, why don't you invite him over for a bbq where your kid/neighbor kids/nieces/nephews are around.

I cannot believe that people are debating whether what he did was wrong. She is a victim. Period. He is as a PP said "lower than pond scum.

DCUM really sucks sometimes.

You can't believe it? This site is full of bottom feeding scum sucking lawyers. They defend creeps like this for a living.

The widespread willingness to see this girl as fully consenting betrays a deep, deep misunderstanding of the world of prostitution. It's not as if this gal got on the phone one day and ordered Velvet Jones' "I Wanna Be A Ho" guide.

Here's my (educated) guess: she lived with a parent who neglected her or abused her or both. She ran away, to escape abuse, or to teach the parent a lesson. She might have met someone either before or after leaving her parent's home who promised her things that she wanted and couldn't get. It might have been Chanel handbags, or it might have been as simple as security and affection. He started sleeping with her, possibly through coercion or fear, or otherwise against her will, but more probably with her consent, because she was grateful to him for providing her living situation, and because a sexual relationship made her feel more grown-up and more secure in her relationship with him. And then the prostitution began. He keeps her (and others like her) under his control definitely with threats, definitely with some combination of giving and withholding affection, and possibly with drugs.

I do not doubt that girls who end up in this situation have behavioral problems, educational deficits, and unformed moral compasses. But to go from that to "she's a whore who was asking for it" is beyond simplistic. It's stupid. It's uninformed. It's inhuman in its lack of empathy.

Is that because the 16 year old boyfriend is equally naive and emotionally unprepared to make such decisions? If so, then yes, see your point and agree.

It's because sex in a teenaged romantic relationship isn't a monetary arrangement. If you recall, NO ONE falls in love like a teenager. Teen romance can be (I stress can be) good practice for the future, in compromise, affection, etc. Also, the two participants in the above scenario are equals. A 30-something paying a teen for sex is anything but.

It's also pure misogyny.

I do not believe that a 15 yr. old should be sexually active. Nevertheless, it is a fact that teen are sexually active and sometimes as young as 12. This doesn't make it right. There is nothing that can condone a 38 yr. old man, or woman, having sexual contact with a teenager. I don't care how old she looked this m,an knew what he was doing was morally and legally wrong. Apparently, moral consideration did not enter his head and, it would seem, neither did legal consideration.
