I was also well into my teens and still struggling. I'll never forgot the absolute disgust in my mother's voice one morning when she snarled "Don't come crying to me when you wet your bed on your wedding night." Eventually I outgrew it. But the shame and cruelty I endured during my childhood over something I had absolutely no control over still hurts. My son is 7 and still wets every night. Thank goodness for pull ups. We did a pediatric urology consult, and they reassured us that this is normal. There's no need to intervene with medication or bed wetting alarms. He will.outgrow it, just as I and millions of other people have. Patience is hard, but patience is what is needed right now. |
| You're waking him up twice a night? Poor kid! |
I’m so sorry! I am glad we can do better for our kids. I did receive an apology in adulthood but those memories are still painful. |
+1 My kids were both 7. We put them in GoodNights training pants until they were ready. I think DH wet the bed until he was 8. |
| No reasonable person is going to be critical of a child who still has bedwetting accidents. It’s a normal part of childhood. They will outgrow it. Be patient. |
| ITS so common we have A Trend on this every week. |
| We were told up to 9 was typical, but DD stopped at 6.75 |
|
I thought my DS was NEVER going to make it through the night. He was 7 when it stopped having nighttime accidents. My MIL said my husband was 8 when he stopped, and my SIL said her oldest also wet the bed until 7. It just runs in their family.
I don't mean this unkindly, but this is a "suck it up and deal" situation until your pediatrician says otherwise. |
| My 8 year old still wets every night. Its a hassle but it is normal. And its why pull ups exist. |
| Same. My 8 year old is still in diapers! It’s insane. The diaper is soaking wet in the morning, every single day. Meanwhile my five year old has been over a year without a diaper. I don’t know wha to do. When everyone says they grow out of it, one day they just wake up without a wet diaper? I can’t even imagine |
Honestly, yes. It did happen almost overnight for my son when he was around 7.5-8. He was soaking GoodNights every single night. I had to add Sposies and eventually switched to cloth diapers meant for older kids because he was leaking through so frequently. It all stopped pretty abruptly. His ped said it is often hormonal. There is a hormone that tells the body to slow urine production when we’re sleeping. For my son, I think that’s exactly what it was. The hormone kicked in and accidents stopped almost instantly. |
| My kid wet the bed until he was 10, it is not abnormal. He hasn’t had an accident in 2 years now. They out grow it in time. |
| I asked my family doctor about this, she said the child has to have responsibility to clean up the sheets or you can just wait and they will probably grow out of it |
Yeah, I'm one of those PPs who was wetting into my teens years. No amount of cleaning up the sheets changed things. |
| Do you give him a choice for what he wants to wear at bedtime? |
