Do you consider oats to be low carb?

If you are watching carbs because of pre diabetes/diabetes, know that even steel cuts oats may spike your blood glucose.

Oats aren't low carb.

But, I think it's important to understand why you are cutting carbs. There are some people who cut as many carbs as they can to get into ketosis because they believe that is the key to losing weight. If you're doing that, then you should cut oatmeal.

Many other people reduce but don't eliminate carbs as a way to decrease calories, and make room in their diet for other kinds of food, such as vegetables and protein. In that case, then it makes sense to get rid of the carbs that don't come with a lot of other nutrients such as fiber and vitamins, and to keep things like oatmeal, fruit, and carby vegetables.

Not low carb, but some forms are low glycemic index.

But do keep good oatmeal in your diet such as old fashioned oats or steel cut oats. Make it at home and take a bowl into office and heat it there. Whole grains are good for you and shouldn’t be cut out

^^ This. The "pouch" is a huge red flag. Just eat oats. They aren't that hard to prepare and they are so good for you.

OP here. The ingredients are: whole grain oats, calcium carbonate, salt, reduced iron.

OK that doesn't sound so bad in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't need to be all or nothing. There are things that aren't so bad and if it's the difference between you eating oatmeal and not eating it, I say go for it

How many grams of carbs and fiber?

If I am going to have a hot cereal I go for cream of wheat made with skim milk.

Oatmeal vs cream of wheat compares the. With water but with milk protein goes up on cream of wheat.

Neither low carb.

My office is always freezing and it warms me no matter the time of year, and seriously curbs my hunger. But it’s a carb. Do the fiber and protein benefits outweigh the carbs? Thoughts?

Oats are a carb and they are delicious.

Why are you making all these stupid food rules? Everything in moderation.

Agreed.

What’s with the mid morning snack anyhow? If you need it because of activity level, the style of oats is unimportant. If you don’t need it, then don’t snack. This isn’t kindergarten.

If you are (pre)diabetic/IR, oats are just a bad option, even in moderation. They're a glucose spike bomb.

No they are not. That's why people mix so much stuff in them. They taste like cardboard which is a sign that we shouldn't be eating them

I cut out added sugar and processed carbs a few years ago to get my triglycerides under control. I actually added in rolled oats and I lost weight and saw my numbers improve. I’m no expert but my doctor told me not to cut carbs but eat the right kind of carbs.

You should tell that to almost every successful endurance athlete on earth that eats oats for breakfast all the time. I’m sure they would love to hear your TikTok educated opinion on how oats are poison.

No, not at all. But I eat them with egg whites or protein powder stirred in.

Why would you cut out carbs and good carbs at that? Please don't do this insane diet.
