Do you consider oats to be low carb?

Anonymous
I’m cutting the majority of carbs from my diet, so no breads, pasta, fruits that aren’t berries, and rice only a couple days a week. But I enjoy a mid-morning pouch of oatmeal. My office is always freezing and it warms me no matter the time of year, and seriously curbs my hunger. But it’s a carb. Do the fiber and protein benefits outweigh the carbs? Thoughts?

No of course not. Oats are good for you. Regular oats are not that high in protein. And they are not even close to being low card.

I wish. But no.

Sorry, but do you know what a carb is?? Oats are 70% carbs, that is not low.

No, but I like to make overnight oats by soaking them in protein shake, and mixed with fresh fruit. Filling and balanced.

I would cut out your “pouch of oatmeal” bc it is sugared and ultra processed crap.

But do keep good oatmeal in your diet such as old fashioned oats or steel cut oats. Make it at home and take a bowl into office and heat it there. Whole grains are good for you and shouldn’t be cut out

^^ This. The "pouch" is a huge red flag. Just eat oats. They aren't that hard to prepare and they are so good for you.

Steel cut oats reheat really well. Make a batch at the beginning of the week and you can just heat up a bowl for your mid-morning oatmeal.

OP here. The ingredients are: whole grain oats, calcium carbonate, salt, reduced iron.

DP but the pouches usually use instant oats that are processed more and not as beneficial for you.

Another thing to know—instant oats have a much higher glycemic index than regular oats so the regular ones are a better choice for that reason too

Why are eating low carb? Carbs are not bad for you. The fact that you're comparing bread to oatmeal tells us you don't know what the hell you're doing.

I make overnight oats with regular oatmeal and plain yogurt (Greek or plain). I add no sugar and just top with some fruit. I eat these cold.

Berries are carbs like bread, brah

The oats in those packages are so finely cut up so they’ll cook asap that you lose any fiber benefit. If you use rolled oats and a tsp of maple syrup of peanut butter or honey, you only have to cook for 90s. It’s so so easy and much healthier.
