Which clubs should get MLSNext?

I would drop ASA before SYC.

second that, include SYC

Why should SYC be dropped? They do extremely well.

Agree with Achilles though.

Does SYC develop talent or do they select huge, athletic kids for the purpose of winning trophies? Seems more the latter. Are they sending kids to professional leagues or top colleges? No where near what other clubs do - especially considering their trophy case. Color me unimpressed. Actually, I think SYC is very much everything that is wrong with youth soccer. Don't care where they are in the standings.

Your highly biased slanted opinion is duly noted

I am not a fan, but they have certainly grown a lot of their own talent and have some very impressive teams. And no, they do not just pick big and fast or play kick and run.

Common theme on DCUM

Every club other than our kid's club has a roster filled with massive giants

Look, SYC does pick some very large picks relative to other clubs, but they've also developed highly talented players who are smaller in stature. This is a function of coach preference and is pretty evident on some top teams.

The people who complain the most about this are often the parents with larger kids, who think their kid's team is losing because it is smaller than other teams. But that is generally not the reason those teams may be losing.

We see a lot of SYC kids that regularly go to small group trainings and do a lot on their own so I question whether they are actually being developed by SYC. What SYC is good at is developing grit and hustle bc those players - while technically not the best - can still play well as a team. Kind of like how the USWNT play. They really want to win and they do.

I think Pipeline and Coppermine should be in or switch to MLSNext. They’ve always seemed very competitive and playing good soccer.

I’m a fan of Baltimore Armour too and wish they were closer. DS did not practice with them because they’re just too far but we def considered it.

I have noticed this as well. There is one player in particular who is on the 2011 team. He is always outside training with a different trainer.

The Bethesda kids pay the mortgages for NS private training trainers. So SYC kids aren't the only ones training outside their teams.
If your kid is only training when their club trains, they aren't very serious about high level soccer.

Which MLS Next team doesn't have a couple early developers on the bigger side?

MLS NXT should just be MLS Academy teams.

100% - Achilles and ASA are just watering down the league.

You think that 13 and 14 year olds need to spend a half to full day traveling every week to find adequate competition? Because that's what happens when you limit it to just the academies. Most of the kids rostered on those academies are not THAT much better than their peers.

Not enough of them.

I nominate Pipeline and Arlington. If you really want to shake things up, throw in one of the nebulously affiliated Takoma teams!
