Worst election ever?

Anonymous
I think it is, yes. Trump is the worst garbage candidate ever, Biden is fine but too old. He has Kamala Harris who has not been a good VP, with a high chance she will end up POTUS, something that is normally not a big risk with a VP. And then who knows what terrible candidate Trump will pick as his VP.

I’d say Trump is the worst nominee of all time.

I’m perfectly fine with Biden. I was also perfectly fine with HRC. Obama was more liberal than I am but he was smart and charismatic and I was happy to vote for him. I don’t need the Democratic candidate to be my soulmate. I just need them to respect democracy, not be a raving lunatic, and generally align with my values on reproductive rights, gun control, voting rights, and the economy. I am pretty well off so voting democrat will usually not be in my interest tax wise, but democratic presidents on the whole have been much better at managing the economy vs tax cut republicans who cut social programs for the needy and penalize blue states with things like SALT cap limitations.

I was too young to vote pre Obama, but I would say the least compelling candidates were 2004 - bush Kerry. I like Biden better than Kerry. But man, in hindsight I’d take bush, McCain or Romney on the GOP ticket in an heartbeat. Any Republican with a shred of integrity and patriotism.

If this is the worst election ever, the last three elections have been the worst ever bc of a common denominator- Trump.

Biden can hardly stand up.

Trump is just as bad of course.

Yes - this is most definitely the worst election because it's not about politics it's about their sanity and character. Politics is something that you can get over and would be a sensible difference. Politics is about consideration and debate. What these 2 offer is absolutely nothing.

There is nothing about Biden that is worth anything except that he's not Trump - that is it! He has made a mess of so many things and I am a Democrat that doesn't really want to be anymore. Only because GOP is so way over the line. as a minority woman, I cannot be GOP but that's a weak position to be in when the imbalance is so pronounced.

This country is going to hell for sure.

I agree to some extent with what you're saying but "Trump is just as bad" doesn't have a place in this conversation. It is fair to equate Trump and Biden's fitness to serve another term as both are clearly not of acceptable fitness for the POTUS job looking four years out. Trump's lack of integrity adds another layer to his unfitness. Even if he were in his 50s or 60s and a "stable genius", we've witnessed him sit in The White House and do absolutely nothing for over an hour while his staff and family members begged him to do something as the US Capital building was having it's security breached by a mob of hundreds. If someone in that position can't act immediately to protect our US Capital, they are immediately disqualified from that position forever in the minds of any rational American. Both trump and Biden are unfit to serve another term but Trump is clearly more unfit in a more damning way.

I voted for Dean Phillips. Why didn't more of you?

Maybe because he just dropped out?

Doesn't mean you couldn't have voted for him yesterday.

Most people thought he had a better chance of defeating Trump than Biden. And he's a much younger leader with governmental and business expertise.

Because people would rather believe in a mythical Dem than deal with reality of a real life candidate. Phillips is the perfect example.

Interesting, Phillis had the exact position on policy as Biden. Why did you choose him over Biden? Let me guess OLD?

Not “most people”. 2.5%

Every election in my lifetime, including those I was too young to vote in, at least included one candidate who was somewhat qualified and competent.

Some older friends were saying that Nixon vs. Humphrey was worse in terms of candidates. What say the rest of you?

I'd say both Nixon and Humphrey were well qualified with relatable job experience and reasonably fit for the job while seeking office in their late 50s. Obviously Nixon's character flaws were exposed after he became president and while his flaws were very serious, I don't consider him to be on the same level of awful as Trump. There is no doubt the 2024 election will be the worst in modern times in terms of the caliber of candidates if Trump and Biden are nominated. There are no logical arguments for why either of these men should be president until 2029. It's just ridiculous but that's where we are.

Biden is a seasoned politician who has been doing an excellent job with the economy.

I’d rather have a president with arthritis but who knows what he is doing than limber president who is dumb as a rock any day.

He seems pretty lackluster to me. Sorry.

I'll take Biden over Trump any day but I think we'd all rather have a President that is capable of working competently for more than 20 hours a week in 2027 and 2028.

The problem is that the GOP is running a lifetime criminal and conman who doesn’t respect the rule of law or democracy for their nominee.

+1

He is old. That is the complaint.

yes, he is. He also has experience and has gotten a lot done. He would fix the boarder and deal with Russia appropriately if the GOP would stop tanking our country.

Biden has gotten infrastructure, and CHIPS done. He has proposed a more balanced budget than any president since Clinton and the bills that have passed have had a consequentially positive impact on our economy and job creation, not to mention setting the US up for success for the rest of the century.

They are most definitely not the same.
