Maybe try lowering your run intensity? An intense run has that effect on me, and walking doesn’t get my HR up enough, so I can find a good middle ground with a slower paced run.
Also, a reminder, dehydration can present as hunger. If you’ve already eaten and had enough protein, make sure you’ve had enough water. |
I eat healthier on the days I run. |
Being hungry after a workout is normal. You just need to change what you are eating.
Try a massive bowl of plain, sugar free yogurt with some blueberries, walnuts, and maybe some of those lower sugar dried cranberries. It gets you a lot of protein with low calories and sugar in a meal that is digested very slowly and keeps you full for hours. |
Cardio really drives hunger for some. OP, try brisk walks and body weight calisthenics to build muscle and bone. |
Yeah not even a little bit. I don’t want to lose weight so I enjoy being ravenous when I have a running habit. It is not remotely psychosomatic. I burned about 1000 calories on an 8 mile run this week. I need to make it up. I would guess for OP the only advice would be to watch WHAT you eat, not how much. |
Of course running is going to make you hungry. And when you're hungry you need to eat or calorie counting. It was what you eat. If you come home from running and eat a loaf of wonder bread or box of Ritz crackers that is a problem. If you come home and eat an enormous salad with beans or sweet potatoes and grilled salmon and vegetables that is a different story. |
That's an idiotic take. |
I’m guessing OP is not doing 8 mile runs. And in late 40s, caloric needs overall are generally decreasing. I think that how much actually matters more than what in her case. |
100% what OP is experiencing is a very real thing. There is a tipping point for every person whereby too much cardio has an adverse affect on their body. Too much stress = too much cortisol etc. Anyhow OP as others have said you really don't need that much cardio, I would replace with weights. It's what all of us need more of as we age. You enjoy running so don't stop, just do less. |
How many ounces of yogurt in a ‘massive’ amount? |
+1 Just the title of this thread gave me a good laugh. People need to learn discipline AND what a balanced diet is. I'd love to read this person's diet log. |
What an absolute crock. Some of you need serious help for eating disorders. |
"Fat" is an exaggeration for some. For me it's the difference between being a size 2 vs a size 4. Size 4 is when I have a regular running schedule. I would say I'm pretty disciplined and I scale most of my food. One study showed that "High intensity exercise transiently increases plasma ghrelin." One of the authors mentioned:
You can read more about it here. https://www.utsouthwestern.edu/newsroom/articles/year-2018/hunger-hormone-ghrelin.html |
No, it isn’t. It’s documented that high intensity cardio will have this exact effect on women ages 40+. She needs steady state cardio, not high intensity high heart rate cardio. |
You again. Can you please keep your crazy disorder out of here. |
