oh jeez i don't know where i got two pounds per week! |
I lost 50lbs in one year pretty easily on WW. Twice. Which tells you that I gained it back. And I did gain it back both times. YMMV. |
I’m 55 and in the best shape of my life. Lost 17 pounds of fat and gained 2 pounds of muscle in six months by lifting weights 3x/week, increasing protein, and stabilizing my diet at ~ 1500 calories/day. I could have lost more if I’d dropped my calories and added more cardio. |
If your 50 extra pounds pushes you into the obese category, you could talk to your doctor about Wegovy, which will make it much easier and set you up for success. You'll still need to eat well and exercise though. |
I got Noom. Anxiety and menopause were not good to me....I have lost 40 # since beginning of September on my own. Walking 10K daily, limiting calories, started strength training with a professional. Still have 40 to go, but in a better spot. |
I've lost 40 lbs in a year but only by using Ozempic. Definitely could not have done it post-menopause without that. It is worth considering for significant weight loss. |
I lost 45 pounds at 48 without apps and calorie counting. It took less than a year (probably 8 months). It took me over a decade to put that weight on and I was consistently eating at least 3000+ calories that whole time - I was lucky to not be obese.
While losing the weight, I still had 3 meals and snacks daily, but I cut way back on added sugar (like under 5 or 10g/day) and didn't drink any calories. I ate a lot of oatmeal, plain yogurt, fruit, veggies, eggs, lean protein, but did not give up carbs. I walked 5 miles on an inclined treadmill daily. I doubt my calories ever dipped below 1500. Tracking and frequent weighing were not an option for me because I had an ED as a young adult and dIdn't want my mind to go there again. I've kept the weight off for almost 3 years. I probably eat 2000 calories for maintenance (I'm the same weight I was in HS). I spend an hour on the Peloton bike 6x/week, but keep it moderate. My body image, activity level and relationship with food are good for the first time in my life. I wish I had done it sooner, but I didn't have the right mindset. Finding the motivation to get started was the hardest part. It sounds like you're there, OP - good luck! |
For an hour on the Peloton, are you stacking workouts? |
I’m trying Noom right now and need to lose about the same as op at a similar age (47). I’ve always thought I could just focus in and do it like I have in the past, but was entirely unsuccessful last year. I finally decided I needed to put some money in would help me focus.
So far, just trying to track meals is eye opening. Those little tiny bites and samples Of things really add up! Have to my been on since the beginning of the year and have not yet seen a big weight drop. I don’t like that tracking steps/exercises is an additional expense. |
How rude |
Please PLEASE i beg of you to not listen to this person!! |
I tried Noom for six months and was very good about tracking and learned a lot. But I only saw progress while I was tracking and the weight came back on when I stopped. I didn’t like the singular focus on caloric density and the rating system made me feel like a naughty child.
So last year I joined a gym to lift weights, consulted with a sports dietician, started counting macros instead of calories, and I’m focusing on fat percentage instead of weight. Im trying to manage my stress better and prioritize sleep. I’m finally seeing changes that feel sustainable to me after decades of dieting. Two things I’ve learned through this process: 1. change takes time and consistent effort; and 2. Sustainability depends on changing an unhealthy lifestyle, not counting calories or macros or steps or any one thing in isolation. Good luck OP! You can do it and you’ll have the rest of your life to reap the rewards. |
I know you can’t be bothered to track food, but with the WW app you can scan a bar code and it takes seconds. If you’re eating things without bar codes it will take a min longer but since you tend to eat the same things every day you could just favorite them.
I lost 30 lbs on it at age 56. I had Achilles tendon surgery and gained fine back but just lost 10 lbs in 6 wks |
In addition to apps, a weight loss hack that has worked for me is working from the office instead of teleworking.
I work for a large agency and noticed that I control my eating much more from the office than from home. Additionally, being in the office forces you to move more. Between last March, when I returned to work 5 days in the office, and now I've lost 11 lbs. |
