I think I kind of get what you're saying, OP. I have thyroid disease and since having a child, my weight has been stuck ~ 15 lbs above where I like to be (I'm 150 and physically perform and feel my best at 135). My sister -- an emotional eater who has even had a gastric band and regained all the weight -- is now on one of these weight loss drugs and looks (and feels, she says) beyond amazing. And here I can't seem to keep off 5 lbs more than a few weeks. It is maddening. I feel the stirrings of wanting it, but my practical side doesn't allow me to really go there (money, side effects, no *real*/medical need, etc.). |
Yup. A friend just started it. We both struggle with our weight. i was prescribed but insurance won't cover it and I can't stomach dropping $1k/month on weight I will regain when i stop taking it once I get tired of spending $1k/month. |
No but I was 100 pounds overweight and lost nearly 80 so I've learned to embrace the success of that vs focusing on the "failure" to lose the last 20 pounds |
The side effects arent debilitating for the vast majority |
I'd love it too! I've been dieting my whole life and just always have that "food noise" in my head. I'd love to see if that makes it go away.
I also crave alcohol and would love to see if that works for that as well. I don't drink too much, but that noise is really annoying and constant. I'd love to be able to cut out alcohol entirely, but I'm down to 1 day a week at most. |
Be careful. I am on Wegovy and also have the alcohol cravings. I didn't stop drinking for the first six months & didn't lose much weight at all. When I stopped drinking completely (and Wegovy doesn't help me not crave it), I lost the weight. It makes sense. It's not a magic solution. |
If you are on a health and weight loss journey and taking a drug that costs $1000/mo. to assist you, why do you even have Reese’s Xmas trees or any kind of candy in your home?? |
Mileage varies, I guess. After starting on semaglutide, my wife is mostly indifferent to the glass of wine she used to have most evenings. She was never what I'd call a hard drinker. I think the wine was all tied up with the general food noise. So, when that went away, so did a lot of the evening wine. I'm speculating here, but I think some people's alcohol cravings are specific to alcohol and maybe semaglutide doesn't do much with that whereas others craving isn't for alcohol in particular but just to be consuming something in general. |
I love it |
For those of you in Ozempic etc, how are you dealing with the muscle loss. I keep reading that the weight loss experienced by most people on these drugs includes much more muscle loss than other methods (with the exception of bariatric surgery). I don’t want to lose muscle and end up “skinny fat”. |
Well that’s what happens no free lunch |
When I was on the Mounjaro shots last year, I spread them out to 10-12 days, I ate a ton of protein, and I lifted heavy. I lost 15lbs and it was all fat according to my fat/muscle measurements at the doctor. So you don't have to shrivel up. I'm trying to lose the old fashioned way now, and it is so much harder. For those unable to get it, just be patient. More options will be approved in the next year, and then you'll have a choice and there will be plenty for everyone who gets a prescription. Hopefully the savings cards will continue so it's affordable. |
I keep exercising and working on strength. I lost a little muscle (along with 35 lbs and aiming for 40) but have been building it back up according to the InBody measures. |
I’m sorry for whatever happened to make you like this. |
Mid-50s and work out 3-5 days a week (cardio and weights). Lost 54 pounds over an entire year, and kept working out. No bad side effects (only side effect is I had to buy all new clothes as everything was hanging off me), no muscle loss. |
