Op - doctor says I am fine. Have good blood pressure, good cholesterol, etc. I gain a lot of weight when I am pregnant. So from age 30-36 I gained and lost 180 pounds give or take. It is exhausting. But the last baby I never lost the last 10 pounds. |
But maybe OP doesn't LIKE the feeling of those extra 10lbs. What your doctor says doesn't always line up with your own feelings. |
Kudos on the amazing amount of cardio that you’re doing daily! I do think that adding in some weights can help, but most importantly I think is diet. It’s just a brutal slog if you try to eat whatever you want and then exercise it off. You’ll see much better results if you really focus on diet to complement your exercise. I am about 5 years older than you and more petite so I was trying to lose 5 lbs which was impossible when I was trying to eat relatively healthy (occasional bagel, toast, pasta, coffee with sugar, etc). I finally gave up white flour (no bread, pizza, etc), most added sugar (sugar in coffee, desserts, pastries), and try to eat low gluten (I have the occasional multigrain waffle because otherwise constipation is an issue). I did all this by drastically increasing my intake of veggies, fruits, and lentils. I also eat eggs but not meat (was always a veg). It was tough for the first 2 weeks but has become a lifestyle shift. It is a big accomplishment for me but also feels a bit crazy that this is my diet/lifestyle now. If I made these changes when I was in my early 30’s I’d probably have lost the weight in a couple of weeks! But now, it took a few months.
Also, I have a bit of a tummy from pregnancies and Every Mother has been transformational. I see my abs now!! |
I'm in a similar boat. 139 lbs and 5'6". Doc is fine with my weight, but I have a small frame and feel heavy and squishy. I'm going to start eating soup or salad for dinner. Sweets limited to a few pieces of dried apricots and dates. I'm not going to eliminate carbs altogether because they make me happy, but I'll reduce. |
Nonsense. You can lose 10 lbs by IF and calorie reduction without having to “continue living this way.” You just need to keep track of your weight and make sure you’re not eating too much or getting too lazy. IG can be helpful for weight loss but not at all required for maintaining it. |
Your expectation to be 138 is unreasonable and almost underweight.
If a healthy person wants to lose weight you have to literally starve yourself. |
Drop the alcohol, pasta, and sugar for 1 month. |
138 at 5'7 is mid range of normal. Sure, 148 is technically healthy, but 138 *looks* better. |
OP - exactly. It doesn't help that I have a twin sister who is same height but weighs 133lbs. So I know what I would look like if I weighed less. My sister says its because I had an extra baby and she had her last one 10 years ago but still its depressing. |
Agree. 122-149 is the "ideal" weight for 5'7" depending on body frame, with 122 for small frame and 149 for large frame. To ball park body frame, circle your wrist with your other hand: if your thumb and index finger overlap, you have a small frame; if they don't touch you have a large frame. |
Op - right so I am on the high end of ideal weight and I hate it. I have a small frame - wrists are very small. Ring finger is a size 4.5-5. |
I think you need to eat a little less and do more efficient exercise. Walking is ok…but for someone youngish, healthy, and capable, it eats up a LOT of time you could otherwise be using to do a much better workout in far less time. Drop the walking and start doing more lifting and more HIIT workouts. Save walking for your “rest” days |
Losing weight is 90% what you eat 10% how you exercise You all need to remember this! |
The lie being: "you can be healthy even with those extra pounds". No. You think you're healthy. What you're actually doing is paving the way for atherosclerosis (high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, vascular dementia) and diabetes. Just because the average American is overweight or obese, doesn't make it good for you. This is a social illusion. Even our doctors in this country are overweight - obviously they're not going to insist on you losing weight. This does not make extra pounds OK. America is laboring under a weight delusion, and it's costing us billions in healthcare and reduced quality of life in our mature years. The ONLY times humans don't suffer from being a little plump is at both extremes of life: as babies, and as vulnerable elders. Research has shown that being slightly overweight is safer for older seniors than being slightly underweight. Of course, it's always best to be in the normal range. And the normal range is fluid: if you have a large frame with large bones and lots of muscle, you can afford to be at the top of the range. If you have a small frame with bird bones, or if you don't work out a lot, you will effectively be overweight if you're in the top of the normal range (particularly true for fine-boned Asian populations). |
Homie, we know that, did you think this was an earth shattering revelation or something? |
