What did you used to eat…. And what do you now know…

I eat plain whole milk yogurt with fruit and low sugar granola almost every day for breakfast.

Agree that it’s hard to find low-sugar granola and that most yogurt sold in stores is crap, but it can definitely still be a healthy breakfast.

So many fake sugars and lean cuisine. I did WW in the early 2000s and that's what everyone talked about, and it was easy. Yuck. It didn't even taste good or full me up.

Depends on what kind of yogurt.

Used to eat straight carbs--chips, baguette, pretzels.
Now always add protein and fat--chips with cottage cheese, baguette with scrambled egg, pretzels with peanut butter.

Yes! Plus all of the “fat free” products that were so widely marketed. Now I try to eat more fresh things, more protein, and other things in moderation.

Only if it’s plain yogurt and granola with very little sugar. Most commercial granolas have a lot of sugar. If you make your own or use just plain yogurts, oats, and add some honey or maple sugar and fruit, then it’s healthy.

I love making my own granola. It’s easy and the house smells delicious.

Protein bars. I use to think because it had "protein" that it was good for you.

I was young and stupid. Now I just eat everything. Mostly whole, real foods, plenty of fruit and nutritious carbs, but everything in moderation. Eat mostly real food, move your body daily, and eat everything else here and there. That's how you lose weight and keep it off.

My go to in AM was a banana, or two, then a trip to Dunkin for a coffee and two to three donuts. I was young, active and metabolism kept me thin. Enter early-mid 40s, weight gain. Denial for a few years, then ultimately stopped that breakfast and breakfast altogether. Still have my coffee w/a stevia and heavy cream. I miss donuts terribly. I like being thin more though.

Now I'm on keto and my anxiety is gone and the GI issues I've had for years are totally gone (that was interesting, because I thought the issue was the dairy ... I guess not, it's the sugar or the gluten or something). I have not, however, lost any weight. Sad face. Still worth it to me to stay on it though.

Sugar and gluten! They also give me headaches and acne. 53 years old and getting zits when I eat bread.

I skipped that whole thing. It's like I was raised to be suspicious of chemicals in food. But I did eat Celentano ravioli happily. Then I moved to an area that didn't have it, got used to a different "cleaner" type, and then over a decade later found Celentano and happily got it and tasted all the chemicals in it. Same thing with Carvel ice cream.

Nuts - used to eat sooo many nuts because they are 'healthy'. Then I decided to track calories for a week and oh my. RIP nuts.

Ridiculous!

I just had a bowl of plain full fat probiotic yogurt, zero added sugar minimal sugar from milk. Added a serving of raspberries, and also a serving of very low sugar (sweetened only with minimal maple syrup) granola full of dried berries, seeds and nuts.

That meal was an excellent phytonutrient bomb.

Granola can be stupid food if you make stupid choices, but if you choose wisely it is one of the most nutrient dense foods you can consume.

That’s a very unfortunate choice you made, because nuts are fantastic for brain and heart health. Try eating just one serving a day - walnuts would be your best choice if you are going to limit. You should be able to purge something less nutritious to make room for >200 calories of phytonutrient bomb nuts.
