Are you trying to lose weight for a special event in a week? Ok, do the keto.
Are you trying to lose weight and keep it off? Keto will backfire, often in a big way. It just isn't sustainable. Just eat real food. Whole fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, animal products in moderation, and move more. |
Just eat some bacon and you'll feel better
sort of joking but sort of not. |
This is the answer. |
I tried Keto and thought it was stupid.
I lost more weight just by exercise a little more than usual. It was better for my guts. |
If this person could just stop and eat sensibly they wouldn’t be here. I know this because I am one of these people. Sugar and carbs are a trigger for me. I do not struggle with overeating when I avoid sweets and carbs. I immediately struggle when I re-introduce them. Different strokes! Keep going OP. For the time being, eat as much as you want of the things that you enjoy that are low carb. Satisfy yourself in that way. Best omelets for breakfast! Delicious meal for lunch. When the cravings stop you will find yourself eating less without much effort. |

OP explained how your approach will not work for her. Prediabetic, has trouble with moderating sugar, etc. OP are you supplementing electrolytes? The sidebar at r/keto on Reddit has great info re: electrolytes, what and how much. Hang in there, the cravings will be gone soon! |
OP is also prediabetic and says she has trouble moderating sugar. So your experience is not helpful to her. No need to share on every thread, to quote you, to do so is "stupid." |
OP, this book was super helpful to me. It was written by a doctor who heads a metabolic health clinic at Duke. It has 3 different carb level approaches and it also addresses maintenance. Super simple to follow, really changed my health and he says he has taken people off as many as 12 meds following this approach. The library had it. I was finally able to improve my health
https://www.amazon.com/End-Your-Carb-Confusion-Customize/dp/1628604298/ This vid may be helpful too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNZsfluh0Uo Good luck! Not feeling controlled by cravings is a relief and reversing the prediabetes will lessen your chances for NAFLD, cardiac issues, mood issues, some cancers and even Alzheimer's. You can do it! |
OP, don’t listen to the naysayers. It is sustainable for some people. I’ve been doing it for 10+ years.
Eat a square of 85% dark chocolate. Some berries and whipped cream. Etc |
I’ve had to do keto short-term for medical testing reasons. A sibling was also advised to do keto to help control gut bacteria issues. We both found it really difficult in terms of mood and energy. For us, the cravings weren’t so much about wanting something sweet or starchy. It’s just that our brains function better with carbohydrate. If it’s making you miserable, this may not be the diet plan for you. |
Have you considered Ozempic/Wegovy? I am on it, and I am eating normal, healthy food in normal, healthy portions. No more food noise, and no cravings-I want to eat normal, healthy foods in appropriate portions. |
