South Asians: how much do you make? What do you do?

I would hope my kids have more fun and have a more chill life. It is fun now, however, to walk into the room and be the one in charge, so I guess it’s not all bad!

It’s hard because my fellow South Asians don’t support me because I’m Pakistani or a woman- not sure which. If they are Indian, unless they are a very nice women, they treat me not so great. If they don’t know I’m pakistani they will go on rants against Pakistan. It sucks.

So sorry to hear this, trust me not everyone is this way. If I knew you I would be your champion and a good human.looo at the post didn't take much to become nasty, humans suck some time

Me (South Asian): 40, 82k in state government.
DH (white): 49, 165k at a non-profit

I'm happy with where I'm at. I work from home, and have tons of flexibility. I could move back to the private sector and make way more, but wouldn't have the same phenomenal benefits package. Next year I will start earning 20 days of annual leave (right now I'm at 15). This is on top of 15 days of sick leave, 6 personal days, and 12 holidays (13 in an election year). The health insurance can not be topped (federal plans don't hold a candle to it from the comparisons I've done the few times I've considered to switching to the feds).

My sister's Indian friend considered suicide after she got a B in high school. The pressure to succeed is immense.

I have seen Indians with all colors of Tesla. I don't think I saw more RED Tesla's in a big Indian gatherings, at least red color tesla didn't stood out to me.
personally I think Tesla's Red cars look much better than any other color cars.
Red is a preferred color in India, Red is auspicious color in most part of the India.

I earn much more in the private sector but I envy you a bit. Life is not a race...and the turtle really does win the race as you are likely enjoying a more balanced life along the way and there a generous pension you can count on. Only state and local govts offer generous cradle to grave retirement plans these days...but not sure for how long. You are wise to stay grounded with the long term approach to life. Good for you!

It also garners attention...something some Tesla owners crave. Well worth the additional cost for the color for some i guess.

Another underachieving Indian here, only 98k at age 40. Went to top schools in the US and UK, so not a subpar Indian education can be blamed

Sundar Pichai also drives a Tesla! This is hilarious and not something I knew about Indians and Teslas.

Underachiever here - age 43 - 225k as a lawyer at a financial regulator. Did the biglaw thing for 8 years so I guess I made money there, but not the type of money that associates make now and I had no prayer of making partner. Yes I'm plenty Americanized with ivy degrees and all but coming up for partner in 2008 in NYC didn't help - no one was going to stick their neck out for me and my career never recovered. So here I am stuck in government.
