“Blue Virginia” Pushing Folks to the Center/Right

I think there are crazies far ends of both sides. I am an independent and I like being in the middle. Going to vote for Biden if DT wins the nomination, if someone else (like Christie) wins the nomination, I might vote R.

I have, however, read a lot of posts on DCUM that were purportedly from people who described themselves as "typical Democrats" but who clearly were not. And 99% of those posts fall into the category of "I was a Democrat but the far-left Democrats are so far-left (and/or so mean) that now I will vote for Republicans." So I have my doubts.

I never said I will now vote for Republicans and, in fact, I’ve never cast a vote for a Republican candidate for President or Congress. I think it impacts my thinking a bit more at the local level to the extent that sites like BV that cover local politics push what seems to be complete allegiance to a far-left agenda with any dissidents immediately attacked in highly personal terms.

So what? I don't base my beliefs on that, so why would I change them?

Wait until they learn that random conservatives run offensive blogs too

I signed onto it because I was a typical Democrat and follow local politics - and sometimes it is still a good source of early information.

But overall I find that the account/blog push me further to the center/right simply because the personal attacks on anyone who doesn’t align with BV’s progressive brand are so intense.

I guess it makes me old school, because I always subscribed to the view that you could disagree with people on matters on policy but still respect them as individuals. BV’s scorched-earth approach is to demonize anyone with whom they disagree in strongly personal terms.

I know - no one forces me or anyone else to read it. And I don’t want to overstate the effect it has on my political views, which remain left-of-center nationally. Just curious as to whether others have a similar reaction.

I'm a Dem voter but I'm not going down the path to defund the police, men in girls locker rooms, and late stage capitalism. Where did the moderates go?

Doubtful.

People are being pushed by a blog no one reads, except hyper-partisans?

TBH it sounds like an astroturf'd counterintel operation.

Fake news, OP.

Ugh. You’re part of the problem.

No, OP is the problem posting BS threads.

I have voted D since 1999 - and now I consider myself independent as of 2022. I don't particularly like the Blue Virginia site nor do I visit it often for that reason, but it was the pandemic school closures and covid vaccines mandates supported by the Ds without risk/benefit data to support that pushed me over the edge as opposed to that website.

I also have problems with the illiberal left, and Blue Virginia is probably a general example of it.

Did you vote for Youngkin?

I guess we are independents now and have to make decisions on an individual candidate level on a case by case basis.

Do you want the D platform or the R platform? With women's rights on the line, the answer should be obvious.

There are a lot of us.
If Biden and Trump are on the ticket, I can't vote for either one.

Gosh, I think it's a clear choice between, on the one hand, the guy who tried to stage a coup rather than have to admit that he lost the election, and who is the subject of multiple criminal indictments; and, on the other hand, the guy who did not try to stage a coup and is not the subject of any criminal indictments; but you know best!

I don't think I've changed - I think the democrat party has changed. I don't think I would excommunicated from the D party in 1999 if I said I don't think people born male should participate in women's sports. No one in the party expected me to say she/her then as a signal, then either. I was then and still fine with you live your life how you want individually, and I will call you what you want.

Right? These "Democrats" sure have a tough decision to make.
