“Blue Virginia” Pushing Folks to the Center/Right

Anonymous
Is anyone else familiar with the Blue Virginia account/blog?

I signed onto it because I was a typical Democrat and follow local politics - and sometimes it is still a good source of early information.

But overall I find that the account/blog push me further to the center/right simply because the personal attacks on anyone who doesn’t align with BV’s progressive brand are so intense.

I guess it makes me old school, because I always subscribed to the view that you could disagree with people on matters on policy but still respect them as individuals. BV’s scorched-earth approach is to demonize anyone with whom they disagree in strongly personal terms.

I know - no one forces me or anyone else to read it. And I don’t want to overstate the effect it has on my political views, which remain left-of-center nationally. Just curious as to whether others have a similar reaction.

Can you provide an example of these personal attack? Also, why is it that these so called attacks from the left push you more right, but the endless name calling, ostracizing, and general nastiness from the right doesn't push you left?

Hmmm.

I've never read this blog.

There are jerks at every point on the political spectrum. My views are based on what policies I think are right, morally or practically. I don't pick my politics to avoid jerks, because they're unavoidable.

Or, you could stick to primary sources and not get sucked into the baiting and psyops.

Huh? What?

People are being pushed by a blog no one reads, except hyper-partisans?

TBH it sounds like an astroturf'd counterintel operation.

Wow, they are pushing you right? Because the right is so civilized and never resorts to personal attacks? Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Ron DeSantis, Matt Gaetz and of course, Mr. Civility himself, Donald Trump, the leader of the Republican Party, who attacks people daily. I think today it was Jack Smith that was attacked. But it is also possible he called women dogs or nasty. Or called Biden senile. Or the list goes on. Give me a break.

Probably because I don’t watch Fox News or subscribe to far-right cites.

It’s not unusual to expect people with who you might otherwise be inclined to agree from a policy perspective to hold themselves to a higher standard, is it?

What sources would you recommend? For an international perspective, I read The Economist and BBC. For a national perspective, I read the NYT. But what do you consider a good primary source for state/local developments? The Post is neither unbiased nor comprehensive enough to fit that bill.

Sorry - meant “sites” not “cites.”

I have never heard any real people describe themselves as "typical Democrats." I have, however, read a lot of posts on DCUM that were purportedly from people who described themselves as "typical Democrats" but who clearly were not. And 99% of those posts fall into the category of "I was a Democrat but the far-left Democrats are so far-left (and/or so mean) that now I will vote for Republicans." So I have my doubts.

So one random behaves badly and it makes you abandon your previous beliefs? People who say this are saying that they weren't really liberal to begin eith and then are petty and have thin skin. Sometimes people I agree with on a political issue are rude or petty or whatever. So what? I don't base my beliefs on that, so why would I change them?
