Nice catch, PP. Hey, anyone who likes what that quote in the first post says, look at the link above. The magazine source ("Evie") has a definite agenda to promote traditional "femininity" and hey, a bonus, it promotes anti-vaxx nonsense too!

This is kind of a shrug to me. Not a useful discussion. It equates "masculinity" with specific actions that are not especially important. Who pays for the first date just isn't that big a thing. I very briefly dated a guy who paid for EVERYthing to the point it quickly felt condescending and show-offy, and he wasn't my idea of masculine at all. The most masculine man I know now is also extremely liberal politically and personally. But I don't define "masculine" in terms of "pays for things, holds the door for the woman (only?), 'providing for' the woman."

Exactly this. Paying for dates or going to work while I stay home is not masculinity. To me, masculinity means that I feel safe physically and emotionally in a man's presence. That he would stand up for me and protect me if I was being mistreated. In a partnership especially, it's the ability to have insight into my needs and the confidence to take care of them.

I can't say conservative men typically meet this bar.

Lol.

IOW, "Why (in my imagination) do only conservative men do ritual behaviors like treat a woman as a trophy instead of a person?"

I am surprised she used the word masculine and not an expression like “human who defined themselves as belonging the class of people who have traits in line with things that certain kind of people do.”

I’m shocked she uttered any word that has anything resembling “male” in it.

I hold doors for men and women. Am I masculine?

May I ask why you make things up? I am a liberal woman and I don't have a single friend who says things like that. I say man, woman, pregnant woman, etc. I don't know where you all live that you constantly hear people say things like "human who defined themselves as belonging blah blah blah"

Maybe she does but at least they now men are men and women are women. Also we live in the reality of men being masculine and don't make an attempt to turn them into metro sexual. That would fall on the ultra women of the left. You go girls!

Real wood. He has built a few tables and a chair. It's just a hobby.

Ah yes, metrosexual. When men bathe and practice basic grooming.

I am a liberal and I assure you my liberal dh is not only not metrosexual, he's downright lazy. Doesn't own a hairbrush, works out in the morning in his pajamas, I think he has a pair of shoes for court (he's a lawyer) and then a few pairs of sneakers. It's bizarre.

+1. Married to an immigrant (from Middle East). He's traditionally masculine but definitely not a MAGA conservative. He votes D, though not the pronoun touting type.
