I'm not quite there but I went from a high of 159 at the beginning of the year to 142 now. Also 5'7. My goal is 140 so I'm keeping at it! I've been doing intermittent fasting and Peloton. My clothes fit better although I don't think I'm down a full size - I was a snug 8 and now I'm a comfy 8 or a snug 6. |
PP here, adding for those interested: I did it the "low and slow" way over about 6 months. Cut calories to 1600 or less and didn't feel deprived. Joined Orange Theory and go 2 - 3 times/week. OTF has made me more toned, but didn't help with weight loss -- I lose the same or more on weeks when I don't go, because I'm not as hungry. But I feel better when I go and am proud of the improvements I've made in strength and endurance. Also, I lost the weight so slowly that having an app that shows the trend was very helpful -- otherwise, I think I would have gotten frustrated and thought "I have to take drastic measures for it to matter," which I would not have sustained. This way was sustainable for me. |
Oh sorry, I wasn't PP by the time I posted. I'm the one who is 5'6 and went from the 180's to 160. |
Another person who lost 20 pounds over the last year. Did it mainly through IF and cutting carbs, with weight lifting and cardio at a moderate rate. Very slowly but steadily. 5'6", 162 lbs to 141 lbs, in early 50's. It can be done! |
OP here. I was drinking frequently, usually 2-3 drinks per night. Now I drink about once a week. I still east what I did before but try to eat less and have smaller portions. I lost the first ten lbs between 2021 and 2022 with just diet and lost the next 10 by adding in routine running. |
Op, that's so good! How old are you if you don't mind sharing.
That's awesome you cut down drinking to once a week, wow! |
Me, too! Sadly, I was starting at 220! I am 5'6". I am down to 196. Low carb. I know, I know, I will gain it back when I stop eating low carb, but I have a lot of T2 diabetes in my family and I have decided this needs to be a lifelong change for me. I may increase my carbs a bit when I get to a healthy weight or occasionally splurge on a pasta dish, but I have resigned myself to the fact that I need to eat this was for the rest of my life. I also work out most days, but I was doing that before I started losing. It is true that you cannot outrun the fork -- at least once you get to your 40's or so. |
I’m on a militant 1400cal a day diet. I have not waivered even one day for the last 12 weeks. |
I’m 5’6” and have gone from 157 to 148 since Feb 1. I’m on my way to 140. I’ve done it using the Noom app which I learned about on this site. |
That next 15-20 is the real test. |
Noom seems expensive, what is the hook that makes it effective and worth the price? |
Well considering the OP is 5’7” and 140 I’d say losing another 15-20 sure is a test to see if she can hit an underweight BMI. |
Well done! You’re really cutting your risk of T2. |
I think alcohol is making me fat. Haha I wonder if I will notice a difference if I stop
Drinking so much. |
Good job OP! I am just starting out with this (using WW). Any advice for how to handle social events? I can do really well M-F when everything is routine, but the wheels fall off at birthday parties and dinners out. |
