There is a post office in 20171 called the Oak Hill, VA post office. There is post office in 20170 that is larger and is within the Town of Herndon called the Herndon, VA post office. People living withib the Oak Hill poat office delivery routes in unincorporated Fairfax County should most accurately use Oak Hill VA 20171 in their postal and physical address. This area is not within the Town of Herndon although it is within the "Herndon area".

Ok then I guess we know different people. They’re not saying Franklin Farm like it’s a town. They’re just specifying their location to people who are also from the area. Because it’s a big neighborhood most people generally know where it is and it helps distinguish from other parts of Oak Hill like closer to Floris. If talking to people from out of town then yes most would say Herndon. |
I agree in part with you. The places on the bottom of our addresses are the names of the postal offices and their associated number. You will find though that some places are served by a PO with a name other than the place named on their house title. I also agree the Oakhill area is part of the Herndon area — just like some areas just outside Falls church city are called Falls Church. The earlier PP wants to separate any association with Herndon because they lived in Oak Hill as if it is somehow superior or a widely-known area. |
| Been that way for years because people near Oakton have Herndon addresses. The town of Herndon won’t have any addresses zoned for Oakton High School. |
No, that's not why. It is because it is not any closer to The Town of Herndon than it is to the area of Chantilly or Oakton or the town of Vienna. It is surrounded by all of them. Those that go to Navy are closer to Chantilly and Oakton. Those that go to Oak Hill are closer to Chantilly. Those that go to Crossfield are closer to Reston, Chantilly, and Oakton. Etc. Those that go to South Lakes are closer to Reston. So, what is the easiest to say where you live? Oak Hill. Do you really expect someone living nexgt to Fair Oaks Hospital to say they live in Herndon? |
| There are kids who live in Herndon at Westfield HS. Its ridiculous. |

Herndon / Oak Hill (20171) needs a new HS. It’s not going to happen though.
To the OP, the only possible area I can think of is crossfield ES district. But unless the mythical Western HS is built (which will never happen), I don’t think we will see a boundary change. As for the name, Oak Hill, they should have named the area Floris because it was called Floris long time ago. Floris had its own post office and high school, and was never part of Herndon. |
The people in the 20171 zip code were sent a survey which asked for a vote on the name. That's why it was chosen. There is a very old mansion of that name within the boundaries. (Of course, there are lots of "Oak Hill" mansions in Virginia.) I think it won because most people just thought it was a pretty name. |
During the 2008 South Lakes boundary study, that neighborhood was rejected by both the South Lakes and the Herndon PTAs. |
Actually part of Floris ES was moved from Westfield to South Lakes as part of that boundary change. |
Yes. But, the neighborhood rejected by both the Herndon and the South Lakes PTAs at Westfiedl has now become more affluent (new construction.) So, now Herndon mom wants them. |
Fox Mill is in Oak Hill. None of use it but we are not Reston or Herndon. And we moved to SLHS in 2008. |
Fox Mill is not the neighborhood that PP was talking about. |
I'm the OP, what neighborhood are you referring to? There are a lot of them out there along Fairfax County Parkway. Bradley something, maybe? |
if you are next to Fair Oaks Hospital you have a Fairfax address (22033). |
