I bought and returned the Veja Esplars because they were so horribly uncomfortable. I could barely walk in them around my house with that horrible tongue cutting up the top of my foot.

I like my slip on converse for short distance walking but they KILLED my feet when I wore them on vacation and was walking 5-8 miles every day. They hurt so bad that I walked into an adidas store, tried on/bought/walked out wearing a pair of Stan Smiths, and threw my converse in the trash. I proceeded to walk 5-8 miles every day in the Stan Smiths and it was like walking on clouds. They are not the latest "IT"/"in style" shoes but they are classic, inoffensive, and comfortable.

Nope. We don't all have to wear the same shoes.

Of corse not, dummy! OP asked for the "IT" sneaker for women - it's Veja, of course!

But, plenty of other good options as others have mentioned.

I love my Cariuma Salvas. I think the Ocas are a little more popular but I've just never liked that canvas style as much. The Salvas have a cooler retro sneaker vibe to me.

These look like supergas to me. Are they more comfortable? I find supergas lacking arch support (like converse) and vejas remainded stiff and uncomfortable after months of wear. I wear Stan Smiths because they balance simple style and comfort, but would prefer a cuter option.

They've never not been basic - that's part of their appeal, I think.

I found Cariamas and Golas both to be uncomfortable.

Maybe Vejas are "it" in your circle, but most women have stopped wearing them. I think they are getting tired.

Here in Paris everyone is in New Balance or the new Vejas that look more like vintage running shoes (not white).

I bought some Victoria shoes recently. Not sure if they are available in the US.

I like M. Gemi sneakers.

I don’t find my Chuck Taylors very comfy, so I stick with the classic Sam Smiths. I love them. You can get them all white if you don’t like the green detail.

I'm French, from Paris, and no, they're not, except on fashion-challenged people.

I was in France last week and did not see a single pair of platform converse so this comment also made me laugh. They’re wearing very low profile sleek sneakers if anything- Sambas or Gazelles. I did see quite a few ASICS Gel 1130s/ Kayanos

Everyone in NYC and Europe is wearing New Balance
