That doesn't mean they can make racist comments or get a say in what they do with the property. |
Aren't daycare centers incredibly profitable given the crazy demand? |
| Tearing down your SFH to put up more "affordable" townhuses or condos doesn't make you an anti-racist. I do consider myself an anti-racist but let's be real: it's my inner capitalist who is leading the charge to convert my now-SFH into much more profitable multi-family units. |

Arlington has so few older houses of any architectural merit, and you're all rejoicing that one of the few that existed is now primed for demolition?
The FCNP isn't a real paper, by the way. It's basically the personal plaything of Nicholas Benton, and it will slant any story as Benton sees fit. |
Many people around here are loaded. Not sure why you're questioning the finances of this particular couple. Who met each other in law school. The author of the article seems to be following missing middle & other local real estate news. He has written about this property *and* local racism before so not surprising that he's following up on it. https://www.fcnp.com/author/charlie-clark/ |
The house built by segregationists? Nope. Tear it down. |
Is it really accurate to refer to a 10-bedroom, 13-bathroom, 9,775 square-foot structure on 1.71 acres with a ballroom, home chapel, and indoor pool, previously owned by an institution of the Catholic Church, as a "SFH"? Regardless, I think the capitalist phrase that applies here is "doing well by doing good." |
It's not just any SFH though. It's from the family of a prominent segregationist. Nothing says you can't be entrepreneurial *and* anti-racist. Win/win. |
What's the architectural merit? It looks like a faux antebellum plantation manor. |
Specifically Opus Dei.

| The article is laying it on a little thick. The owners have a large for Arlington property that they are planning to redevelop and have decided to work the victimhood angle to justify what they want to do anyway - make the most money possible off the lot. They just have to figure out what that looks like first with middle middle officially passed. |
You're projecting a bit, don't you think? Anyway, fine with me if Arlington gets even uglier. A few nice older homes only made a dent in the prevailing banality of the place, and you all just want some new, attached shacks to go along with the older ones. |
I’m highly skeptical they have started demolition without a plan in place — so whatever pops up there in the coming months was ALWAYS a the plan, not some racism fueled vendetta. Since the guy has no job after making millions in DAYCARES of all things, he is clearly developing this property. |
| Just want to go on record that I said this place would be torn down months ago. Happy to see it go. If they do a SFH, fine, townhouses, fine. I don’t care. I live in the neighborhood. Doesn’t bother me one bit either way. |
Fits right into the whole ugly DC area. |
